my mentor got lost in my blogworld.

i was inspired by my mentor’s take on blogging.

she’s a GREAT woman of the Word, and she’s spent 5+ intense years walking with/beside me.  i wouldn’t, in many ways, be where i am today without her.  so, she sent me an email yesterday tellin’ me she’d been lurkin’ on my blog and got lost in all of it (the blogworld, that is).

she also sent me some first-timer observations that i thought y’all would find interesting:

To do a blog about yourself, you really need to know yourself!!  What an awesome way to get to know yourself /figure out yourself/ and then to let the world know and enter in to you!!!  Not that life is all about us, but there is that healthy balance of learning about ourselves and then therefore loving ourselves, the way God created us!  Unique! Beautiful!  Full of quirks and likes and dislikes, etc….you young folk do that so much better then us old folk.  Thanks for leading the way for us.  Being so open with your humanity and so sure of God’s grace and position in Him.  It really is all about God, isn’t it??  He made us and He covers us!  We don’t need to be ashamed!!!  He’s got our backs!!!

so, tam’s question about spending time on the computer got me to thinkin’ about why in the world i even do this blog stuff… and my mentor is right, this has really become one way to get to know myself better. one of my other mentors always said “a life not evaluated is a life not worth living”… i think she’s right.  its like holding up a mirror of myself – studying the blemishes and beauty… getting into blogging in July definitely opened up a view of myself that i wouldn’t have seen otherwise!

but what about you? why do you blog? what do you “get out of it”?  i’m REALLY REALLY curious to hear some of your answers….

WHATEVER WEDNESDAY 9.25.07

235696308_d70e60c0cf.jpgi’ve been thinking alot about Tam‘s closing question last week: What would you do and how would you feel if you couldn’t get on a computer for a month?

well, i’d be out of a job for sure! and i’d lose significant contact with friends, family, and those i minister to! but, how would i feel? i think, in some ways, i’d feel free – but in other ways i’d feel totally isolated….. i dunno if i wanna go without my computer.

but, i took her question ONE step further: what if i couldn’t blog (posting, commenting, AND using my trusty bloglines)? [gasp!]

i did the math… if i didn’t blog for 1 month, i’d have about 50 free hours each month. that’s two days.

two days.

that’s an entire weekend!!!

i’d probably write more songs. and then record them.

i’d also probably read a book or get outside before the chill stays.

and i’d probably most likely definitely spend more time with others and [can i admit this?] my bible…..

since i think this is a question worth considering, a torment worth undergoing, i thought i’d ask you too.

so, starter question: what would you do with your new-found free time if you couldn’t blog for ONE ENTIRE and LONG month [gasp again!]? (please include an estimate of how much time would be freed up!)

it ain’t summer anymore….

i grew up in southeast Georgia, where we only had two seasons: HOT and BLAZING HOT!

life in Massachusetts has been far far far from hot…. and now the leaves are turning a-crayon-box-full-of colors again. i always heard that fall in New England is incredible. and i also grew up wondering why the “fall colors” were bright orange and yellow and red. it seemed so strange to me that our kindergarten Thanksgiving decorations were such bright colored leaves… because the leaves that fell from the trees in my Granny’s yard were a soft brown and ugly lifeless gray. no color there.

then i realized that citizens of New England ruled the color-culture of the fall season!

the landscape becomes a breathless rainbow of warm warm colors, as if the trees themselves are protesting the cool cool air that surrounds them in a misty fog with each sunrise.

although i too am protesting the bitter cold that’s coming, i protest with an embrace of this beautiful fall. i embrace it because i know what to expect. we’ve been in New England for over a year now, and i’m finally entering a season where i know what to prepare for up here. i’m not a big fan of surprises and like to be in control (its a character flaw, i know….), so an entire year of unpreparedness with each new season began to drain me. now my soul can rest!

here’s what we found last year:

what about you? do you enjoy fall? what do you love the most about it?

:)

more fun: things that make me smile

**for those who are prayin’, an update: we may have significantly great news about my sis-in-law’s condition… we’ll know more for sure later today… so i hope to give the news tomorrow! thanks for prayin’ y’all!!!**

alright… i’ve been tagged (by angie @ littlestepsoffaith, but it fits with the theme of laughs this week. so we’re gonna go with it – on one condition: you leave a comment telling me something that makes YOU smile. K?

k.
Things That Make Me Smile [insert official sounding announcement music here] and i don’t know how many i’m to put on this list, so i’m going with 10:

  1. talking to my two-yr-old nephew on the phone
  2. my husband – pretty much ALL the time – he LOVES to make me smile… and he’ll go to great lengths to cheer me up at times… (everyone say “aaawwwwwww…….”)
  3. 128320993454987500dudewaitw.jpg
  4. icanhascheezburger.com

  5. any episode of the Cosby Show
  6. kittens
  7. seeing kristiapplesauce‘s name in my comments’ list – because its always gonna be something funny… well, almost always. he he!
  8. awkward young teenage grocery bagging boys at the grocery store (and i don’t know why it makes me smile!)
  9. babies. all of them. any of them. just babies
  10. boomama
  11. beth moore when she gets all fired up about something, you know, going on one of her soap box rants about something, and she starts brushing her bangs out of the way so she can maintain more intense and uninterrupted eye contact as she’s yellin’ at you!…. THAT makes me smile – even though usually she’s totally preachin’ hard about something that i need to change in my life! ouch…………

alright, your turn – you can at least share one!
