that’s where i’m from……

i’ve been thinking about home a lot lately. maybe because i wanna be there with my family as my sis-in-law enters surgery to remove her tumor growth thingy this week. maybe i wanna be there because there’s a permanent chill in the New England air that will only get worse and won’t go away for many moons……

maybe i wanna be there because that’s so much a part of who i am.

that’s where i’m from:

dirt roads.
pecan orchards.
climbing trees.
roosters crowing at my great-grandma’s in the morning.
honey suckles.
camping on the sandbar at the river.
sitting on the back porch & watching the heat lightning after the sun sets.
falling asleep to the sound of crickets and bullfrogs and breezy summer nights.
four-wheelers and go-carts.
fishing. i hate fishing, but i was there….
pick-up trucks.
boiled peanuts.
sweet tea.
fried chicken.
mashed potatoes.
homemade ice-cream.
deer-hunting. [yes, i can shoot a dang rifle - VERY well]
pig farms, cow fields, and chicken houses (all of which stink worse than you could ever imagine!)
tobacco & cotton fields….
yes, cotton fields.

and… boondocks:

THAT’S where i’m from….

where are you from?

  1. Four seasons (wet, wet and cold, wettest, and sometimes even wet and hot)
    Green landscapes
    gorgeous mountain peaks
swimming in ice-water-drip-off-streams from the snow melt on the mountain
Evergreen trees and as a result Christmas tree farms EVERYWHERE
the smell of the air just before and just after a good rain
    great coffee
wild berries (especially blackberries) fresh off the bush
massive squash (zucchini, squash and pumpkin really)

  2. snow days in October and April
    beef on weck
4 beautiful seasons (although winter takes up 1/2 the year)
campfires on a cool October night
    chicken wings!
snow, cold, snow, cold—and then winter comes
    muck farming–onions and cabbage
    white Christmas
beautifully comfortable summer days—all 11 of them
    Friday night fish fry

OK–that’s enough—I’m getting hungry!!!! (and cold–must be winter is near!) ;)

    Orange blossoms
” I like to wake up in the morning, where the orange blossoms grow, where the sun comes peepin’ into where Im sleeping, and the songbirds say hello, I like the fresh air and the sunshine, its so good for us you know, so I’ll make my home in FL where the orange blossoms, orange blossoms, orange blossoms grow”

    Mini the manatee
