WHATEVER WEDNESDAY – happy new year edition!

235696308_d70e60c0cf.jpgHELLO and happy new year!

i’ve been doing a lot of thinking about Christi’s final question last week: lately when i spend time around my family, especially during the holidays, there are moments when i find things out or just moments in the conversation that shed new light and understanding on my family. what’s been the most enlightening moment re: your family lately?

  •
    • my great-great aunt used to keep an ol-timey cough remedy on the kitchen table – a bottle of moonshine with pieces of peppermint in it. would take care of the kids’ cough every time, which is why my aunt and dad would have a crazy cough whenever they visited Aunt Lily’s – so they could have a drop or two of moonshine!
    • Drew’s grandparents have this weird habit of naming pets after their grandchildren. and we’ve all wondered why Nanny named the latest two pups Mandy and Buddy (instead of Mandy and Drew!). we just found out that drew’s Grandpa (not Nanny) named Buddy because he calls all the guys “buddy” or “buddy-boy” or something like that. plus, it’d be strange to name brother and sister puppies after a married couple. ….duh
    • i wondered just how far my brother and sis-in-law took the cancer battle this fall.  i found out that they did have to talk through wills and funerals, etc. its just not right for a 25 yr old to have to think through that stuff.

anyway, that’s just a FEW snippets of what i picked up over the past two weeks!

alright, starter question: how did you ring in the new year?

  1. I rang in the new year looking at the back of my eye lids. With two kids who get up early every day … there’s no way I could watch a ball drop or anything like that this year!

Next Q: Did you make any new years resolutions?

  2. Happy New Year -

Nope, no real resolutions yet for me, at least, none that I said “out loud” – I haven’t made them because I’ve not been able to truly get quiet and seek direction prayerfully. I have some, but they need to be every day resolutions, for sure.

Q: Now that Christmas is past, what was your FAVORITE Christmas special on TV, cartoon or not .. just a Christmas SHOW on TV?

    Fred

  3. Happy New Year!

My favorite Christmas special was “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”! There was a special after the actual show that interviewed the original voices, and I got a kick out of seeing the “humans” behind the scenes. Plus, my daughter and I like the song, “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch!”…and we sang it loud and often this Christmas season. :-)

Q: When do you take down your Christmas tree?

    Kim

  4. A: drew and i didn’t put up a tree, since we’re spending the holidays down in sunny Georgia. but we did take the christmas decorations box down out of the attic…. so i guess we have to put the box back up when we get home this weekend. :(

Q: did you eat the traditional new years’ meal yesterday? isn’t it like black-eyed peas and greens and other stuff??? and why is that a tradition?

  5. A: Ha ha, Yes, I did! I didn’t get to eat with my family as I would hope, but some church friends invited me over & had the same thing! I’m personally not sure why it’s a tradition, but I love collard greens & stuff (though I’m not huge on the black eyed peas!), so it’s awesome! :)

Q: Have you had any snow yet this year?

  6. A: Yes! It has been the snowiest December on record in Massachusetts. And we had snow flurries yesterday and today as well.

Q: What is your favorite board/card game?

  7. Ohhh… SPADES! Me and my roommates in college used to play till the wee hours of the morning. Good game.

Do you know how to change the oil in your car? Why or why not?

  8. A: no. but i DO know how to check the oil to make sure it has some…. and i don’t know how to change it bc i don’t want the kiddies to go hungry. see, there are men that are employed at car service stations that have those jobs in order to make money to feed their children.

Q: do you know how to change a flat tire?? (i do!)

  9. I DO know how to change a flat tire! Usually it involves using my cell phone to call my Knight in a Shining Saturn. If he isn’t available the next best step is to look really pathetic and act ignorant when the first man stops to help! Works every time! (Although, for the record, yes, I can jack up the car and loosen the lug nuts, take them and the tire off and put the spare on…but it isn’t as much fun, especially in Michigan, in the winter!)

    New question…
What is the most important charity to you and why does it hold meaning?

  10. The Shriner’s Hospitals. 8 years ago my daughter was badly burned… they not only saved HER life, but they ministered to our entire family. I’ll be forever indebted to them. Forever.

    New question…
What is your favorite Christmas tradition?
