so i took tam’s fashion advice…

seeing as how i have a cold, and the air outside is cold, and i didn’t feel like heels: i went with a red Georgia hoodie, my favorite jeans, slip-on shoes, and a very trendy red/white houndstooth winter hat (for a splash of style – that my daddy gave me for christmas – to offset the way-too-comfortable ensemble i’d thrown together).

and, for the record, i took the fashion advice of Tam, and the rest of you who suggested i travel in comfort….

this is what came of it:

“excuse me, are you traveling unaccompanied?” the flight attendant asked me.

“i’m sorry?” i looked up, squinting my eyes — i’d been up since 4:30, had WAY too much cough medicine, and didn’t get any sleep the night before… it could all just be a dream.

“are you traveling unaccompanied?” he pointed at the empty seat beside me.

“um, yes sir.” i answered, thinking someone needed the seat…?

“do you have an envelope?” he asked….

an envelope…? i had that little sleeve thingy that you put your boarding passes in, but not an envelope. why would i have an envelope? who traveled with envelopes?

“an envelope?” i looked at him in utter confusion. maybe he was the one suffering from lack of sleep.

then HE confusedly asks, “how old are you?”

this was getting more bizarre by the second.

“me? um, i’m 29.”

[insert chuckles and laughter from everyone within earshot]

he quickly glances at his passenger roster, apologizes, and says he must have the wrong one.

oh…. i get it.

i look fifteen!

i smiled as graciously as possible, “no problem… in fact, thank you!”… i was trying not to act embarrassed.

he turned and headed up the aisle.

[insert more chuckles from nearby passengers]

i laughed and mumbled for them all to hear: “well, one day i’ll appreciate that.”

[insert hearty round of laugher #3]

after that, i quickly turned red, which i’m sure blended in nicely with my red hoodie and hat. i don’t embarrass easily. mark this one down for the records.

ps: i learned through a self-defense course to dress your kids (and yourself, women) in really bright clothing when out in public, to be spotted easily. this will deter kidnappers from snatching them or us away, and also make them easier to spot if something did happen. i actually think about this safety precaution when traveling and choose an attire accordingly, because i am painfully aware of the fact that i can look like a college student. OH the irony!!!!

Yet another reason to dress in this fantabulous attire! The unending compliments…or comments

Glad you had a safe trip Mandy! Sorry you’re not feeling well too…that makes the both of us!

One year our entire family went to Disneyland and me being the over protective worry wart mother I am decided we would all wear the same color so that we could spot each other easily. So I opted for an obnoxious orange…a couple of ours were somewhat bright too. Here we are, walking up to Disneys grand entrance, the children barely able to contain their excitement (ya should’ve seen the look on Brents face!) We pass over to the other side and what is the first thing I see? The ENTIRE parks Maintenance Crew in ORANGE!!!! Wha?!?! Ya gotta be kidding me!

Very cute hat! And I’m glad that you are back! :-)

I suppose being asked if you’re old enough to travel alone is better than being told you have

    “barnacles of old age”???

GIRL I am so stinking sick of people thinking I am 18. I dont mind the whole young looking thing but I get asked if Morgan is my sister and then people at the mall will be like oh your not old enough to be married and etc. then, people ask me if I go to the local high school. Last ER visit the nurse asked me who Morgans mother was…I was like home girl that would be me. Cracks me up!!!

That is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time. I really, really wish I could have been there.
It it makes you feel any better, people look at me and my 9 month belly and no rings on my left hand because they’re swollen and think I am an un-wed teenage mother!
