saw this last week over at Grit and Glory:
she confessed that she recently consumed a whole bottled water at the grocery BEFORE she paid for it, and then paid for the empty bottle during checkout.
wow.
so, confess: have you ever?
confession: i haven’t. but i’ve wanted to…. candy bars. mmmm, candy bars.
btw: she’s a missionary over in South Africa. so click over & say hey.
i’m back…just this morning i was at target with my 4 yr old son and he wanted a snack. i gave me a box of animal crackers, he ate them while we shopped. when he was done i put the empty box in my cart and paid for it at the register! another time my son walked out of a store with two tubes of lipgloss in his pockets (don’t ask what he was thinking), when we got home i discovered them and took them back! i think the clerk was surprised that i would actually come back!
that’s my confession!

i have such a sensitive guilt complex that if i don’t do the right thing i’ll obsess over it until i go crazy!
Yes, Julia(my daughter) and I often get something to drink and then just pay for them at check out. The clerk throws the bottles away for us.
And when you have little ones that fuss while shopping–it is an easy way to quiet them.
yes, i totally have done that. i do that a lot when i am shopping and thursty.
Ummm… with coffee at the grocery store, but they intend for you to do that, so I guess it doesn’t count. Can’t think of anything else. LOL

I have to admit that my wife and I do something like this on a fairly regular basis. There are many times we take all the kids and go grocery shopping at ye olde Wal-Mart Supercenter, and we’re hungry.
So, we just pop back to the deli counter in the back and buy a bag of fresh chicken tenders and a bag of potato wedges. We begin eating until we get to the fruit juice aisle, then we each grab a drink, open it up and wash the food down.
At the checkout, we send the empty bags and bottles down the conveyor belt along with the rest of the groceries. We sometimes get a funny look from the cashier, but it’s a great feeling to see them ring up something you’ve already consumed, then throw away your trash for you.
actually, people do it all the time with drinks, donuts, and yes, candy bars. But mostly drinks. And then hand me the empty bottle to scan and throw away for them. I don’t really mind.
Hmm, the grocery stores in my ‘hood has drink stations (cold shelves with all kinds of bottles of beverages). The sign says something to the effect: “Thirsty? Drink why you shop.”
They even have cupholders in the carts.
Then you just pay for the bottle (finished or otherwise) when you get to the checkout line. Just make sure you don’t throw away the bottle when you are done.
wow how did you find her site? Alece is a good friend of mine…and her ministry is def worth checking out and supporting…
and yes I have done that. lol
Yes “we” have. I’ve done it with my 2 year old with a snack like mentioned before. I’ve done it with a candy bar. I’ve done it with a pack of gum
I’ve never had them throw the trash away though. I take it with me.
Klampert: i’m not sure how i found Grit and Glory… i had some spare time last week while nursing a cold, so i wandered in search of new blogs for 2008. guess that’s when i found her site!
WOW that y’all are friends!
if i ever go to the grocery store hungry I’ll open something, keep the wrapper and pay for it at the end. I do it often. Maybe i shouldn’t go to the store hungry..hmmm
Yep, we have too. Sometimes it’s because the kids are “sooo hungry” and sometimes because we are just thirsty.
But I admit that I do usually make sure I have cash on hand before we open something we haven’t paid for…just in case their card reader isn’t working (one time, all the card readers in a store weren’t working due to some wierd computer glitch, and the store did not accept personal checks from out of state, which ours were).
ok. somehow i totally missed out on this post. thanks for the link love, mandy!
