confess: i HEART kelly clarkson…

2008 February 28

i know. you’re probably expecting another wild post on marriage or sex or scandalous christian behavior. but i got nothin. well, nothin but a fever today, and too many cough meds to make any coherent thoughts. so, we’re gonna have to go with Kelly Clarkson. don’t worry, i’m sure we’ll get back to all that marriage/sex stuff eventually… besides, those discussions are still going in the commenting down there.

y’all. i’ve fought it for a few years, but i just don’t have any fight left. i’m in. i’m a fan… sigh, i’ve hesitated to get sucked into the Kelly fan madness, but its hard to escape her talent. at the end of the day, this girl really really really truly is talented.

i’ve been listening to her music lately, and her varied vocal tones and timbres are too much. seriously.

no studio effects can make her sound like a torch singer in one song, soul-gospel diva in the next, and end on a rocker song to make gwen stefani cry over. yeah, the studio can expand it. but its gotta be there first.

its not the studio. its kelly clarkson’s pipes.

dang.

YOUR TURN! now that i’ve spilled my pop-music guts, its your turn. and i’ll be nice: just confess whatever. something of YOUR choosing. not necessarily music-related. just something strange, goofy, weird, or abnormal about yourself.

we’ll still love you.

just confess.

right here.

right now.

I have, I mean MY FRIEND has all of her cds. She really can belt out some vox, and that one high note on “Since You’ve Been Gone” (again, and again, and again, and AGAAIIIIIINNNNN!) is amazing.

I heart amazon.com……I am ashamed. (head hanging low to hide my guilt) :-)

  3. 2008 February 28

me too, mandy, me too. I don’t admit that to just anyone, so now here I am on the internet confessing it. I just feel cool when I listen to her songs. Is that bad? I have very little in my life to feel cool about. Poop and snot on me…kids embarrassing me at every turn. A girl’s gotta have something to rock out to.

  4. 2008 February 28

I’m with you on the Kelly.
    I also heart Natasha Bedingfield.

But my favorite thing of all… Sunday afternoons, 2:30ish, after 6 hours of being at church + lunch somewhere….diet pepsi on ice.

    :)

    Well, here it goes…

I confess: I own the movie “From Justin to Kelly.”

  7. 2008 February 28

The Sound of Music! Yup. Something about a nun who can’t resist a hunk with a hand-full of mischevious kids just does it for me!

  8. 2008 February 28

I too heart Kelly Clarkson. I don’t mind it all since she is from my metroplex and she is a member of my church.

    What can you do.

  9. 2008 February 28

    Oh yea…

I heart the movie Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon. My son and I nearly have that movie memorized including the cheesy soundtrack.

  10. 2008 February 28

    christina aguilera…homegirl can sing.

  11. 2008 February 28

ok, we’re all sick, sick, sick too.

i’ll agree with tam: i like the way gas smells. also, since emma loves her “do, re, mi” movie, i’ve also come to really enjoy sound of music.

    for my original confessions:
i love old school whitney houston (wanna dance?) and bryan adams greatest hits (summer of ‘69).
i love charts and church history.

    i’m mocked all the time.

I will admit it, I am a FOX News Junkie. Such a dull and boring obsession, I know…I know.

  13. 2008 February 28

    seriously…. traciejane wins.

  14. 2008 February 28

Ok…I heart Old school Mariah Carey…before she went “insane”.. that girl can sing like no one else…even her little squeaky high notes..they are almost inhuman!

  15. 2008 February 28

I am addicted to Ginger Ale, I drink it so much that I have specific preferences. Seagrams corp- way too weak and corn syruppy. Canada Dry – not strong enough. Shweppes- I love the sting. The more it stings the better, I’m really addicted. I get about 4 two liters a week. I also drink it in small juice glasses. I call it my sanity shot of ginger ale. I have about 8 a day. At any given moment during the day when life gets too hectic I run in the kitchen and have a shot!
Thumbs up for Maggie! I love Sound of Music!
I love the smell of Sharpie markers
    I STILL love Michael W.. Smith ( don’t laugh)
    I love music Theory
I am insanely addicted to yard sales
I frequently stare off into space
My brother and I used to eat dog food
Both my boys have 4 names
I LOVE to talk about giving birth

  17. 2008 February 28

cyle: GINGERALE??!!! HOW could i have moved to New England without knowing THAT?! wow… .girl. you still surprise me!

  18. 2008 February 28

CYLE! Omg i just laughed aloud for like five minutes about your comment! Hi, my name is Cyle, I am a ginger ale addict! I knew about the staring, the dog food and the yard saling… but Michael W smith…really? that brings back some memories..sittin’ in the rain, water on the brain… yep, ok so I’m done!

There is no shame in like Kelly!!! No reason to hide it because she’s wicked awesome!! I’ve loved her since American Idol, however i don’t think her newest album is the greatest. The previous ones are better. Favorite song? Beautiful Disaster…the live cut.

What, that I remember the lines from where you left off or the fact that I actually put them on? haha!

I don’t have many obsessions but I admit to being in freaking love with Kelly Clarkson. My friend ran into her at The Woodlands Marriott once and he didn’t even really know who she was. He fell in love with her from watching her walk accross a hotel lobby passing by him, looking into his eyes, and telling him “Hi”. He went completely nuts for her. I fell in love with her music firt and her persona later. I went to Ireland last year and that whole country is in love with Kelly Clarkson. The DJs talk about her like she’s the Royal Princess of music and they play her songs every 5 minutes. My friend carrie’s a picture of her in his wallet. I put one on the sunviser of my van. That girl puts some kind of magic spell on people.

I have been a Kelly fan since that first season of American Idol… the only season I watched from beginning to end… and if this tells you anything about how impressed I was by her skills… I still know the dang voting number… 1-866-43657– . Sad… so I guess that’s my pop confession. I voted during the first season of American Idol. And… Sober has to be one of my favorite songs… such a gifted voice!!

  28. 2008 February 28

I don’t see anything wrong with being a Kelly Clarkson fan. There was one summer where I led a group of kids at camp in a rousing “Since you’ve been gone”. There is nothing like a bunch of middle schoolers singing the high part of “shut your mouth I just can’t take it…again and again and AGAIIIINNNNN!”

  29. 2008 February 28

Sean- Both! That song is just a very random song!

    for Heather and Mandy
Mandy- you did not know I was addicted to Ginger Ale because the addiction just started this past October.
Heather- You are responsible for my said addiction.
Myself, Heather and Kim were leading worship for a conference in Savannah and had dinner late one night. I was 34 weeks pregnant. The dimmer did not sit well with me. I became very sick in the morning while the girls were dressing for the meeting.
Sweet Heather ordered me room service : dry toast with a ginger ale Ahhhhhhh
    Thus the addiction was birthed
For the next 6 weeks of my pregnancy I felt sick
I drank ginger ale constantly. I only ate pasta and rice.
Ginger ale was worth a million dollars to me, I strongly believe it has major medicinal value!

I confess: I *like* “From Justin To Kelly”.
    It’s true. Cuz I’m a Jelly (Justin/Kelly) fan, and that’s what the movie’s all about…

Also, I’ll just tell you that not only do *I* like Kelly…I’m kinda obsessed with her.

    Actually, forget that “kinda”…

  32. 2008 March 2

Cyle- Oh, wow, I can’t believe I enabled such an addiction! :P Oh, well, I guess since it helped you, it’s ok! It def. does have medicinal value! Ginger is great for tummy taming! :)
