May God Arise
i wrote this last year, during my personal devotional time on Good Friday.
we’d been at seminary for about six months, and the move from one region of the country to another was quite a change. the winter was long and dark and cold. and my insides were wintering as well.
this song was very much a personal prayer for Christ to rise out of the tomb of my heart.
He has.
and He continues to.
how has Christ risen in your life over the past year?
May God Arise Good Friday 4/6/07
You weren’t born to lie in darkness, Lord we’re waiting, Lord we’re waiting…
We’re waiting for the Son to surface, will You break free, will You break free?
And with Your life as an offering
You came to die so that we can sing….
May God arise
From this tomb within my chest
May this heart of stone be flesh
Bringing life and nothing less
May God arise
From what once was dark and cold
Bringing light so bright and bold
Making newness from the old
May God arise ……
When I am lost in darkness, can you find me, can you find me?
I’m waiting for the sun to surface, can you break free, can you break free?
And I will bring an offering
From my heart now I will sing
Chorus

Mandy,
This was great! I really liked being able to hear your voice…I love it. The song is beautiful. It’s amazing to me how people write songs (I am of the non-musical variety).
Praise God for Good Friday.
i love, love, love this song, mandylion.
I love it. Love the music, love the words, and love the change in your voice when you’re singing. I let Jonah listen as well, and when he figured out it was you, he said: “That’s amazing! Ms. Mandy’s voice sounds louder when she’s singing.”
Oh Mandy,
What an amazing song for today. I love your music, but especially this song. It really speaks to my tender heart today. I’ve linked my blog back to this post. I want everyone to share in the blessing and experience your song, “May God Arise.”
Thankfully,
~Cheryl
Ooooohhhhhhhhhhh….and to listen today to these words. I absolutely love this song, everything about it, so easy to join in worship. These words touch a chord deep within me. Thank you so very much.
I listened to this several times.
And then I listened to it again several times and cleaned my fridge which I accidentally unplugged during my break for a week. (oops). Your song was far more entertaining than the multi-colored mold inside my fridge I’ll have you know.
This was pretty. I liked the drum intro, and the complexity that crescendos of course, and the harmony, though I think you could have done even more, it sounded great with just a subtle touch of extra vocals.
In other words, it was pretty stinkin’ fantastic. You have a nice range.
I liked your explanation for giving that song life, too.
For some reason, this is the only song of yours I can’t get to run either here or on the songs page either one. I get 4 seconds as the full score and one drumbeat. Not sure why…
Mags: i’ll email it to ya soon…. thank you for letting me know.
I love this song, Mandy. Keep posting them. Really, get over the cringe factor. People need to hear the message. And I can tell you that because I have the same prob.
