…when its warm and sunny outside????

my weekend in review:

friday - worked on my farmer’s tan while it was a GORGEOUS 70 degrees outside - we had a heatwave and picnic all in one day!! (that’s my friend sarah & her daughter out there with me - thanks to her son for snapping the photo - i had no idea 7 year olds could take such great pics!!!)

saturday - spent the day with my husband celebrating our 5 year anniversary (a week late but still great). this is my favorite beach off the coast of Massachusetts. i LOOOOOOVE looking around for tiny bits of sea-glass in the pebbles. its like therapy for my soul. and, yes, i’m wearing a jacket, people. don’t confuse “warm” with “hot”…. “warm” in New England means that you can stand to be outside for 2 hours without freezing to death.

so, what did y’all do this weekend?

I am back from spending the morning at the beach. Got up before dawn and watched the sun come up over the water. Listening to the waves come in. That’s my therapy for my soul. Yes the temperature was cold, my heart felt warm.

Mandy how long have you been living in New England now. Yesterday the temperature was in the 70’s here in Connecticut, not that far from you. You still needed a jacket? When is that southern blood of yours going to toughen up. :)

Spent all weekend studying, not sleeping, serving in nursery school at Church, studying, worshiping with God’s people and studying. Not planning on sleeping. God is on the throne and I am so privileged to study His character as revealed in Exodus 34:6-7 and even more privileged to know Him intimately. But I am looonnnging for respite for the soul in being outside and being with people that I love….like you. “Mandy, I’m being serious! and that is coming from a Northern Irish woman!”

I went to a Women’s Conference at Wesley United Methodist Friday night and Saturday morning, then went to a friend’s new house to be of some help with the move, then out to eat at Spankys, and then to a concert in Baxley with Avalon, and today I went to church, greeted, went to the beach to relax and start on my Beth Moore “Psalms of Ascent” homework- I was so into Beth that I didn’t notice I was frying my skin, went to another friend’s house and won bocce ball, yay!, becoming more red by the minute. Now I look like a lobster and plan to take a vinegar bath… I need a weekend to rest from my weekend! :(

Sat AM: Justin and I made a special trip to Chick-fil-A for the oh-so-good chicken biscuit. Then we wandered around the mall, Costco, and Home Depot. When we got home, I sat outside in the sunshine, took a nap, and read Relevant.

Sun: Church, home for a most restful afternoon. We watched the Sox rally and then I took a nap!

    I love weekends!

  • hislifeformine // April 20, 2008 at 10:29 pm

Well generally we don’t have snow in April in Oregon. I do recall though just a very few years ago it actually snowed in July!
I’ve lived here all my life…don’t know what I’d do if I moved to another state. I wonder if I could stand it? :)

  • alece // April 20, 2008 at 10:30 pm

i can’t wait for YOUR turn either!! yay!

  • rachelpage // April 20, 2008 at 10:34 pm

Guess I’ll just have to grin and bear it!
Are you planning on moving across the country perhaps?

  • alece // April 20, 2008 at 10:43 pm

    recurring smiles are good.

  • Dan Underwood // April 20, 2008 at 10:43 pm

studied, finished filming a video for class project, and babysat for some friends while they went out to celebrate a birthday!
farmer’s tan… Mandy, I’m jealous of you along with every other normal person in this world. If I sat outside, I wouldn’t have a farmer’s tan, it’d be a “red neck”, and I mean that literally!!!!

  • mandythompson // April 20, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Hislife: OH how dreamy would THAT be???!!! probably not. tho. well. not right now…. :)

Alece: :) its like an IM session, but on my blog. and the smiles are UNLIMITED!!!

Dan: i should’ve been more clear - i absolutely BURNED my shins. burned. i mean. they are STILL red. ouch… and its been WELL over 48 hours. oh well…

  • alece // April 20, 2008 at 10:51 pm

MANDY! SOMEONE STOLE ALL THE SAND OFF YOUR BEACH!!!

You are welcome to some of mine - i have lots! :-)

Saturday - down to our Harbour Port to see a boat show with a couple of friends - given a free tour of a 98 foot, $35 million dollar motor launch (hired out to party’s of 8 for $100 000 a week! for that ’special’ get-away) I will NOT be one of the 8 any time in my foreseable lifetime! After, went to a coffee shop and had caesar salad and NO coffee - ( 1 gold star to me :-) )

Afterwards went to a beauty spot on our river (the Swan River) and saw a family of seven or eight Black Swans and some glorious Sunlit clouds shortly before sunset.

Sunday spent the morning celebrating Mother’s 76th birthday and the afternoon putting out garden waste for a atreet verge collection our local council offers once a year to get rid of excessive growth to trees and shrubs etc.

The trouble with living in a paradise is the vegetation grows almost UNCONTROLLABLY!!!

    Poor poor me! :-)

  • TheNorEaster // April 21, 2008 at 1:23 am

“Warm in New England means you can stand outside without freezing to death” …?!?!?

Heck, then it’s AlWAYS warm in New England! I’ve been here for quite some time, and I never froze to death. I’ve even gone out to check the mail in my pajamas, I’ve walked to work when it’s 9 degrees outside, and I have laughed with my uncle when he said a heat wave was 5 degrees (as opposed to the 2 degrees we had the previous day. ;) )

Cold? In New England? Only when it’s below 10 degrees F.

Mandy, yaw must be from The Souff!

  • TheNorEaster // April 21, 2008 at 1:25 am

And if you think that stoney beach is fun, then just try to make your way up to my neck of the SANDS this summer!!!

  • mandythompson // April 21, 2008 at 7:59 am

TheNor: you’re CRAZY if you think its warm here. C-R-A-Z-Y!!!!!!!

  • traciejane // April 21, 2008 at 11:43 am

Mandy just saw the funny you made, HAHAHAHAHAHA you are a comedian. I need cheesy humor today, I am on fire from my burn and kind of still shaken up from my near death experience. I forgot to say that this weekend I came 1 minute from being in a really bad car accident. I have never been that scared in my life to the point of wanting to tell all the people I love I love them because it was so close. I believe in angels on earth now!

  • mandythompson // April 21, 2008 at 11:48 am

Tracie: what did i do now? :) glad you didn’t get in that accident….

  • traciejane // April 21, 2008 at 3:02 pm

Mandy: ummm. what? What did you do now? I was talking about FRI-day! Thanks for being glad. It was just so weird you know. I moved into the right lane because a car from the middle section came into my lane. I moved back into the left lane, looked back to see what was there and it was a huge semi truck. 1 minute later and I would have been ran over by a semi truck. So I think I still have purpose here… :)

  • mandythompson // April 21, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Tracie: you DEFINITELY still have purpose. wow… and, FRI-day - LOL!!! yes!!

  • danielle // April 21, 2008 at 3:18 pm
