he flew through the air like superman

living in massachusetts has turned me into a massive Red Sox fan. i mean, yeah, go Braves, but the RED SOX. THE RED SOX.

only the hardest of hearts could live hear and not fall madly in love with the Red Sox.

so, to celebrate Justin’s birthday yesterday – we headed for the GREEN MONSTER.

this was my first (and probably ONLY) professional sports game – and it was categorically the BEST time i’ve had since i moved up to this glorious area of the country.

[yes, i DO in fact catch glimpses of glory up here.]

now, back to the game:

i never knew that “the seventh inning stretch” was actually really a time to stretch your legs. and sing God Bless America AND Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

and if you hold your hand up for the “peanuts – getcha peanuts heh-yuh” guy, he’ll throw them RIGHT into your hand.

they always sing “Sweet Caroline” before the ninth inning: “sweet caroline” [OH OH OH!] “good times never seemed so good” [SO GOOD - SO GOOD - SO GOOD!!!!]

and there was this guy with the signs. he was funny.

and we were sitting RIGHT behind the pitchers’ warm-up area. oh you could even SEE their fast and furious arms fly. wow.

and Youkilis hit a home run. oh man.

and Coco Crisp stole TWO bases inarow – flying through the air like super man for third. and he really did FLY like superman!!! WHOOOOOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m Coco NUTS!!!! for the rest of the inning all i kept saying was: “he FLEW through the air like superman.” because, y’all, he really did.

but my FAVORITE part of the game? the players each had their own “theme song” that would play when they were coming up to bat. OH MY GOSH – we danced and danced!!!

my theme song would be “Brick House” – and i’m NOT proud of that fact – nor am i proud of its lyrics. but, iLOVEdisco-yesido. and it was the first song that came to mind. i’m sorry. i really am.

what would YOUR theme song be?

  1. Lovely pictures!!! I never got into baseball but Pakistan’s national sport is Cricket which is pretty similar in concept. Oh how I loved going to Cricket matches with my dad when I was little!

Theme song..hmmmmmm..I love so many songs and feel like alll of them apply to my life but if I could think of one [or two?1] it would be “I am not forgotten” or “Friend of God” both by Israel and New Breed. Those two songs just get me up off my seat, jumping up and down and I can relate to the words of both :)

  2. It’s a toss up between two songs for me.

Ain’t goin’ down til the sun comes up…Garth Brooks

    OR

Baby Got Back (not proud of that either, but seriously, I love this song)

And that game, sounds like SO MUCH FUN! The music ALONE would have been awesome! :D Baseball is pretty much the ONLY sport I like, if I had to pick. ;-)

  3. brandy: i’ve never really been into baseball games. really. but the sox. OH THE SOX!!! one canNOT help one’s self.

gchyayles: “Friend of God” yes. good one!

  4. Oh! Mandy! I’m so proud of you! (wipes a tear) For real! A Red Sox fan. I’m speechless, really I am. I’m just so filled with emotion that you donned the offical uniform (washed out hat) and went to the game. I just…I ….I don’t know what to say! If I was there right now, I’d give you a big hug! Welcome, welcome, welcome to Red Sox Nation!!!

    I can’t even think of song…oh my…after that…wow, um…

  5. Mawn-stah.
    Mawn-stah.
    Mawn-stah.

I’m practicing! hugs back at ya.

so… SONGS??? anybody else have a theme song? c’mon! i’m SOOOO looking forward to y’all’s theme songs!!!!

  6. you forgot to mention hottie pitcher Javier Lopez…i mean….

ok, song. well, i’ve been trying to think of another but as i said yesterday…

“North Carolina! Come on and raise up…” i’m happy with that one for now. :-D

  7. I am so excited about Red Sox! We get to go to a game in two weeks! Your pics gave me a great preview.

I am also very glad that it was the best thing since getting up here. Baseball games, especially good ones, warm the heart. So does a beer and peanuts!!!

Okay, okay, theme song…Well, I think it would be “I’m So Excited” because I’m pretty much “So Excited” all the time. I mean, I started my comment with “I am so excited…” It’s pretty much who I am. I don’t love that b/c it’s kind of cheesy and I’d rather be profound but…whatareyagunnado?

  8. Joe: you never cease to amaze me! always a surprise from you.

Tam: duh. oh – about the old guy? i spent the whole game filling out stats or something. i have no idea. had a clipboard & everything. but, that’d put me to sleep too.

  9. Consuming Fire – Third Day as for the first 30 seconds worth it’s about the best song possible. That or Chipper Jones’ song: Crazy Train!

Boo Sox! Yeah Braves! (mandy don’t become a traitor, though I’m jealous, I’d like to visit the green monster also)

  10. My theme song has to be Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake. It is one of those songs that just gets stuck in your head and somehow it just stuck as my theme song.”I’m bringing sexy back, Yeah”

  11. My Red Sox theme song would be “Eruption” by Eddie Van Halen.

    Easy. Why?

Because when The Red Sox are playing, that’s what I do.

    I…ERUPT!!!

By the way, Lori…It’s not “Mawn-stah”.

    It’s “Mahn-stah!”

    Giddid right!

  12. HA! Gotta love NewEngland speek…depends on where your from…yes, there are some that say Mahn-Stah…and there are others who say Mawn-stah…Merrimack Valley speek i guess…

  13. Mr.Love – HA!!!!! yes. oh that’s a great song. and, no, i don’t LOVE lopez. just think he’s rather handsome in person. that’s all i’m sayin’ about that!

  14. Totally the “Hawaii 5-0″ theme.

No deep reason – it’s just a way cool song. And I may have been known to watch that show from time to time. Maybe kind of often. Okay. Maybe it comes on at 2:00 on channel 27 . . .

  15. Ummmmmmm why did our avatars change to funky blue backgrounds with a great big “G” in between?? I mean it kinda goes with my blog “G” for Gchyayles and even if my “name” did not begin with a G well..I’m still A “G” 8-) but ahem anyway…why the change???

  16. gchyayles: i’m experimenting… wordpress has some settings that we can work to get people avatars going. some non-wordpress users have ‘gravatars’ which are like universal avatars.
so i set it to YES for gravatars. and then we got the blue G.
    might change it back.
    but might not. :)

thenor: will talk to the boss about that one. you know, the Oregonian Mahn-Stah!!!

  17. Ohhhhh and those two comments I sent, I sent from my blackberry without being signed in so that’s probably why it showed up on those comments versus the ones I’m sending now from my computer. I giddddditttttt!

  18. what’s with the lamp?

and aren’t live sporting events amazing? they turn me into an avid sports nut, even if just for the duration of the game i’m attending.

theme song? that’s like asking me to pick a favorite. and you know how much i suck at that.

    and uhhh… GO YANKEES!

  19. Mandy, you have crossed over to the dark side!! The Red Sox?? The AMERICAN LEAGUE? What the heck? So, yeah, I’m a little baseball crazy… I’m a from-the-womb Cardinals fan, and I have to say that my all-time favorite theme song is Crazy Train. I don’t know what it is, but something about it just gets me going… GO CARDS!

  20. But regardless of the fact that it was a Red Sox game you went to, I am glad that you experienced your first major league baseball game. There is nothing like the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, the smell of hotdogs wafting through the air… Ahhhh…. I need a glorious day of baseball at Busch Stadium, stat!

  21. TheNor: such a gentleman.

Kara: OH GIRL! OH GIRL! i had the MOST FUN!!!! and, really, its IMPOSSIBLE to live here & not be a fan. really.
so – when are you gonna get a blog so i can add you to my blogroll???

  22. Haven’t followed the BoSox since the late 70′s/early 80′s when Yaz was still playing but you gotta love a guy with a name like Coco Crisp. The first time I heard it, I thought it was a joke. I was just thinking, if he met and married singer Fiona Apple and she kept her maiden name and hyphenated it, she’d be Fiona Apple-Crisp. Delicious. Sorry, it’s still somewhat early here!

My theme song would be Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man”. However, my wife and kids would probably say it’s Skynyrd’s “That Smell”!

  23. Rick: i was born in Jacksonville, FLA. my mom grew up there – used to hang out with the Skynyrd boys before they became famous. they taught her how to play foosball. crazy, huh?

  24. Mandy I also welcome you to Red Sox Nation, I have been a proud member since 1986 when Bill Buckner introduced me to pain. Something my family had been through so many times with the Red Sox, Enos Slaughter in 1946, Bob Gibson in 1967, the epic 1975 series with the Reds and of course Bucky “Bleeping” Dent and Aaron “Bleeping” Boone. It was all worth it of course when they finally won it in 2004.

My theme song would be the opening riff from Baba O’Riley or maybe the primal scream from Won’t Get Fooled Again. No matter what it would be a Who song.

  25. No a big baseball fan. I only just realized there were other sports besides football… My 9 year old daughter just started playing softball so maybe that will change.

    Theme song… hmmm… a couple of choices

  26. shoot hit enter too soon”
    – Enter Sandman – Metallica
    – BOOM – POD
    – Killing in the Name – Rage Against the Machine
    – Killing Me Softly – Roberta Flack

  27. Geez, another screwup… you may need to edit my comment and close my italic or it may screw up the rest of the comments in this tread… sorry… :)

  28. My theme song would be “Life Is A Carnival” by the Band. I love the infectious beat of the music. Toe-tappin, dancing music.

“We’re all in the same boat ready to float off the edge of the world
    The flat old world
The street is a sideshow from the peddler to the corner girl
Life is a carnival–it’s in the book
Life is a carnival–take another look”

Of course I wouldn’t mind hearing “We are the Champions” by Queen being played for me either. :)

The most intimidating sound from a sports crowd is 50,000 Mets fans screaming “We Will, We Will, Rock You” at Shea.

  29. Pingback: ww - my book - 5.7.08 « just a girl

  30. I think my theme song would be “stayin alive” by the Bee Gee’s. Ok, maybe not, but like you, it was the first song I thought of! No, please don’t think of me as a middle aged man, stuck in the late 60′s, still wearing his silk shirts half unbuttoned, a permed hairstyle & leather pants! I’m in my mid (ok, late) twenties and only sometimes do I wear my silk shirts half unbuttoned!
