that’s where we used to live - between college and seminary. for five years. got married there.
it was heaven.
the leaves were always green. the air always warm. the mosquitoes always swarming. the raccoons always digging. the roaches always crawling. the sand gnats always biting. the crickets always chirping.
we were within seconds of Sea Island.
about an hour south of Savannah.
about an hour north of Florida.
and about a 3 minute drive from the beach.
sometimes we could hop over to Jekyll Island and soak up the glory of Driftwood beach. THIS is my all-time favorite beach in the whole wide world.
what’s the most favorited place you’ve ever lived?
[driftwood beach]

The home I grew up in.

(can’t see the pic for some reason…)
My most favorite place to live was San Luis Obispo California. Tucked in between LA and SF, the central coast offers some of the very best climate in California. In an average year, 316 days it’s 73 and sunny. Coastal fog is common, but burns off fairly quickly each day to reveal a beautiful coastline littered with clifs and spectacular ocean views.
The town itself is a college town, home to Cal Poly. Every Thursday evening is a huge farmers market that morphs into a social event for every merchant in town. This isn’t a little one block event where local growers pitch their crops…this is blocks and blocks of stores open past normal hours, restaurants barbequeing on street corners….oh i can still smell it!
Someday, I’ll get back there!

I have lived in so many places, but my favorite is where live now, and that is anywhere with my husband and our girls. Sappy, but true.

I love Ft. Worth . . .finished up college there. It’s got great personality - big city, small town feel, tons of parks, shopping. And the police wear cowboy hats. Awesome.

Yeah for St. Simons Island! But my favorite place that I have lived was Summerville, SC. It is a quaint little town just outside Charleston. My grandparents lived there when I was growing up and then I lived there with my grandmother after my grandfather died. I would go back there in a heart beat!

I’ve always wanted to visit St. Simons Island! I’ve only lived 3 places: my hometown in Illinois, here in Nashville and my favorite, in Cornwall (England). I lived there the year after I graduated from college and worked as a volunteer for a church. Absolutely beautiful and I loved everything about it.

Surrey, England! I grew up in a beautiful house just kiddy corner to my elementary/middle school. I have such fond memories of that place. We had a swing and slide in our garden and a small toy house. My dad had it built. It had a porch and everything and all our toys were in it and we would have picnics with our dolls on the porch LOL. I’ve only lived in England for 15 years, Pakistan for 4, and then the US [and that too in the same State] for 8 years.

South Africa. I had room to roam and explore, and the thunderstorms? Man o man.

Port Hueneme Beach in So. CA. Miss it terribly!!! I LOVE the smell of ocean air, the sound of crashing waves, beach voleyball and crinkle fries from the snack shack
2 people say England! Wow! I would love to go to England some day.

Oh man! Sounds like pure heaven! I love that place. My favorite place we lived was West Palm Beach - for the same reasons… I love the beach… that is where my mansion in heaven will be - right on the beach! Have fun!

I love St. Simon Island and Jekyll. I’m even more jealous now of your wonderful trip.
I currently live in Franklin, TN, right outside of Nashville and love it here. The thing about Nashville is it’s a big city with small town feel. A great mix for me!
Relax and enjoy.

Ahh. It is such an amazing place. I love it!
All my friends want to move away but seriously I want to stay. It would be a great place to settle down in the future and have a family.
tam // May 10, 2008 at 5:17 pm
I sure hope my mansion is beach side in Heaven! How Perfect would that be. All in our perfect bodies on the beach. Finally!!!
Brandi - I used to live in Knoxville TN. Didn’t make it out your way much - but when I did I loved it! I love big cities so that’s perfect for me! You all need a Worship Pastor/Arts and Media guy???

We have lived in 6 different States - moved over 20 + times, never lived more than 5 years in one place until now. My favorite was Lake Placid, NY. We lived there 5 years. What an outdoor Haven! Hiking, boating, all winter sports, wonderful people - excellent school system for the kids. We do love where we are but Lake Placid was unique.

Pete Wilson // May 11, 2008 at 10:23 pm
I’m going to have to say Nashville where I currently live. It’s not New York or LA but it’s home. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
Michelle // May 12, 2008 at 12:59 am
ALECE - Texas is God’s country!!!
My favorite place was Didsbury, England. It wasn’t beautiful but it was central on the Isle and easy to get to London, York, Wales, and Scotland. The best 9 months of our life!
tam // May 12, 2008 at 1:48 am
me? start something?
wouldn’t dream of it
alece // May 12, 2008 at 1:54 am

Musssst ressissst Temp-tay-shun!
Mandy Started it! - she left us and left Tam in charge!
(I suck at resisting temptation)
My fave place to live would be my home of 37 years. Perth, W Aus.
It has no REAL mountains and no snow. It is the most isolated capital city (for a state) in the world.. yet it is Truly Beautiful You just have to see it to believe it.
Mandy - you make St Simon sound just so
appalingappealing, Girland i can’t see the pic neither!

I have so many good memories of everywhere I’ve lived… my childhood in Southern Illinois was perfectly idyllic; my college days spent in Oxford, Mississippi were fun and football filled; Franklin and Nashville, Tennessee were beautiful, so much fun and I’d love to live there again one day; but nothing beats where I live now — St. Simons Island. (Okay, so technically we “live” in Brunswick, but we spend more time at work and playing on SSI… so does that count?) I met my husband here, got married here, have a wonderful church, my parents and in-laws live an hour away, we have great friends here, and oh yeah, there’s the BEACH and the OCEAN and it’s stunningly gorgeous (and it never snows). What’s not to love??
Kelly // May 12, 2008 at 11:30 am
Mandy, you had me until you got to the roaches. Yuk.
The only state I have ever lived in is Michigan. I’ve only left once to go to Oklahoma for a week. But where I live right now is my favorite. Small resort town loaded with hills and trees, flowers, rivers, Betsie Bay almost accross the street, and Lake Michigan with sugar sand beaches 8 blocks away…Beautiful Frankfort, Michigan

Oh, and when it snows 7 months out of the year sometimes…we get buried!! And it’s a blast! Gotta love snow to be here:)
kara // May 12, 2008 at 2:10 pm
And I totally second the “the roaches always crawling…” part - Ronnie Roach was our “other” roommate at 107 Coke!
charitymedders // May 13, 2008 at 12:13 am
and we miss you on St. Simons Island!
christygriner // May 22, 2008 at 5:23 pm
St. Simons is the best place that I have ever lived! we grew up there during the summers as a child - later, I met my husband there.
christygriner // May 22, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Oh - I think they are called “palmetto bugs” on the island - the joke always was: Do you know the difference between roaches and palmetto bugs? The causeway. : )
