remember

Happy Memorial Day.

our country has recognized this day as a day to stop and remember those who have given their lives in battle.

at church yesterday, our pastor invited us to take this a step further and remember those brothers and sisters in Christ that have given their lives for the Kingdom.

as we celebrate our national freedom, let us not forget our spiritual freedom as well.

most americans are not directly touched by persecution and/or martyrdom, but let us pause to remember those who have lost their lives for the cause of Christ.

blessings,

mandy

in the midst of remembering, what activities do you have planned for today?

  1. Today we will spend some time with friends. Nothing big, just good food, conversation, maybe some live music, and a trip out for ice cream!

  2. We will be doing some moving! Yes, I know how exciting!
I love that your pastor reminded those who helped in the fight for our spiritual freedom.
May we never take for granted the freedom we have because of the price that was paid by His life either.

  3. we should have a Christian holiday to remember the martyrs…I try to teach my kiddos about these things, but I don’t think they get it. I do know ones that I have lost from wars, and after wars..not as many that have died for their beliefs. That stuff just doesn’t make the news in the US….wonder why?

  4. Darla: i’m pretty sure that the Christian Calendar has a day for martyrs, but, sadly, a LOT of today’s [contemporary/modern and even traditional] churches don’t follow all the holy days on this calendar. i think we’re missing out.
as for WHY things don’t make it in the news. i hate to sound all “conspiracy-theorist” – but i actually believe that news companies report what they know will draw viewers, because viewers draw advertisers, and advertisers pay to have their commercials up in prime-time. how do TV networks make money? advertisers. and advertisers aren’t gonna pay big bucks to be on shows that don’t have hight viewers. so, we hear about the stuff that EVERYBODY wants to hear about. we hear about the stuff that sells. we don’t hear about the latest christians that are killed – daily – in all parts of the world. because that doesn’t sell…

check out persecutionblog.com for daily updates on the horrors that are going on all over the world.

  5. Lori: i HEART live music.

    Sharon: packing. yes. ugh…..

i’m doing laundry now, and writing a new song. will be working with Tam on another MTTV later today… and then possibly going to a cookout tonite.

do i have to brush my teeth today?

  6. Thanks , I am aware of the persecution blog, and the voice of the martyrs, but I did not know there is a Christian calendar..I would like to get my hands on that.. thanks!

  7. Darla: the Christian calendar – i don’t know if its like a printed calendar – but like a schedule of holy days, just like the US has a schedule of national holidays… its more accurately called the “liturgical year”.
    so.
most denominations follow the same schedule for lent and easter and christmas and advent and all that stuff… but there are other, less celebrated (Depending on the doctrine/theology of the denomination), days as well – like Ash Wednesday or Pentecost, etc.

  9. As a veteran, Yep me!!! and how endowed I am to whom has suffered for our religious freedoms. Oh my gosh. I give them a high fives and my ultimate respect!!

But today, I am celebrating another freedom.

My friend Herb just got out of a 60 day rehab for addiction to painkillers and alcohol because of a work accident. Here is a man that truly truly LOVES the Lord, but a freak accident broke his back and pain happened.

So.. a smaill group of us are going to enjoy steaks and a little competetive SKIP-BO today. and Enjoy Herb’s walk back into life.

    Happy Memorial Day!!!

So we spent today avoiding finishing our projects :-) That resulted in the three of us going to the park, eating ice cream, playing in the kiddie pool, out to dinner and ice cream again. (Hey – it’s a holiday . . .the more ice cream the better!)
