i might get her to read Austen for me

so you may have heard me mention before that this seminary is all international and stuff. i mean, there are a TON of Christians from other countries here. and i LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

coming from rural Georgia, we only have three ethnicities, and they don’t really talk to each other all that much. that’s just the way it is. but, i’m proud to say, my family is different! yay.

back to the seminary.

i’ve found my favorite real-live accent.

it softly rolls out of the mouth of a seminary wife/mommy.

let’s call her “Melissa” just for fun. and, because that happens to be her real name.

and let’s call her accent UTTERLY CAPTIVATING!

anyway, the other day i sat out by the playground with a few of the mamas in our bible study, and we were all trying to get our studies done. and Melissa was there.

and i couldn’t get my work done because she kept talking.

not in a bad way.

but in a “i-can-sit-and-listen-all-day” way.

i felt as if i was in a Jane Austen book, hearing her talk and laughing at her British colloquialisms that are just as random and quirky as ours.

i eventually had to go inside to finish my bible study.

yes. her ACCENT was causing me to stumble.

what about you? what’s your favorite accent?

  1. I think I have to say Irish. My husband’s family is of Irish descent, and ironically enough (or not, since it’s near Boston) their next door neighbors are right from there. As a matter of fact, their car has the steering wheel on the right! We spent St. Patrick’s day with them, and some of their Irish friends…what a hoot!!

  2. Oh nuts! I’m not being original now when I say Irish. In fact, we almost religiously watch Jakers! on PBS because we love the accents. And even though I looooooove David Cook, I was sad to see Carly go from AI, I missed her accent.

But I have to say, I love a soft, deep Southern accent on a lady – evokes thoughts of spacious estates and big tumblers of sweet tea. So ladylike and genteel.

  3. I like accents from those from Latin countries. Nothin’ like hearing a Puerto Rican or Guatemalan. Love it. Guess that’s my south Texas roots coming into play.

  4. Australian….and not just b/c of Love! Seriously, I ♥ a strong australian accent. ;-) British is quite fascinating too. French is quite sexy depending on who is talking.

Mmmmm, I just love accents I think. heehee Ooooh, Canadian accents make me smile.

“blog” is a great accent too. ;-) HAHA!!

  5. I’m cool with any accent as long as I can understand what it is that’s being said. I was talking to an Australian couple one evening and was embarassed by how many times I had to ask them to repeat themselves!

  6. I love the British accent as well…especially when it’s coming out of the mouth of a child. For some reason, they’re accents are so much more delightful!

  7. i really don’t like british accents too much (the real thick, strong ones)… sorry.

danielle, i’m a big fan of south african accents myself. ::wink::
