i sometimes (in my head - of course not out loud) call myself the bionic woman, because i spend so much time attached to a computer. ugh.
anyway, here’s how i do it:
- bloglines - my feed reader - you can use these types of things to subscribe to your favorite blogs, then whenever these blogs have new posts, they will be shown in your reader! makes life simple.
- Quick Screen Capture - there are a number of free screen capture software downloads. i use “Quick Screen Capture” - this way i can take “pictures” of things on the net. watch out for copyright laws, though!
- flickr - i gotta host all these pics somewhere.
- Gmail plus Google Apps (online spreadsheets, databases, etc) plus Remember The Milk (keeps a to-do list in Gmail - yay)
- GoDaddy.com - i have a love/hate relationship with this company, but it’s just about the cheapest way to grab a domain name. hence, mandythompson.com
- StumbleUpon - ok this is just weird. but fun. it is a GREAT way to find new ideas/thingies/ articles/thingies/ideas on the web. check it out.
- Dictionary.com (yes. who am i kidding???)
- Serif Page Plus - free download - desktop publishing software (kinda like microsoft publisher)
- Serif Picture Plus - free download - photo editing software - easy enough.
- Windows Movie Maker - it was installed in my software package on my laptop, and i use it to make the videos. its easier than publishing a blog post. i ain’t lyin
- youtube - duh. y’all know that already.
- FileFreak.com - a REALLY tacky place for me to host my original songs in order to link them here on my blog.
- ProTools LE plus M-Box2 - niiiiiiiiiice going away present from my church. a little over my head, but TOTALLY an amazing piece of recording software.
- MasterWriter - songwriting software. spoils me. challenges me. inspires me. organizes me.
any secrets i’m missing out on???

Wowie-zowie. I will have to try out some of these goodies. I have five to add.
1. http://www.biblegatway.com - they have a nice selection of versions of the bible in English and in Spanish.
2. I like Facebook for keeping in touch with people and for playing on line Scrabble (Scrabulous application).
3. There is also http://www.scrabulous.com that I use with some of my friends.
4. http://www.Slide.com - for making slide shows of my pictures to post on my blog.
5. Skype - for video chats with my mom, mostly.

do you REALLY need more???
I’d like to do Stumble but I’m fighting the urge. I spend enough time on here. Sadly.

“any secrets i’m missing out on???”
yes. when you open a can of, say….refried beans or cranberry sauce, and you turn it upside down but it just won’t come out onto the plate…just open the other end with the can opener too (it releases air pressure)
what???
mandythompson // June 23, 2008 at 12:18 pm
cindy: i’m sure you have a trick or two up those sleeves!
@ng: echoing all of those, but the scrabulous. sorry.
bran: i only use stumble when i’m desperate for a fun saturday play post (ie: Picassohead)

Umm…by the way…None of that stuff you mentioned makes much sense to me, Mandy.
I mean, like, none. NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.
tam // June 23, 2008 at 1:30 pm

TheNorEaster // June 23, 2008 at 2:26 pm

i don’t know how easy your screen capture thing is, but it can’t be any easier than apple’s grab:
if you’re on a mac, command+shift+3 takes picture to desktop.
open in preview, drag a box, command+k (cuts/crops it).
upload it.

Thanks Mandy. There were several tools you listed I wasn’t aware of!
mandythompson // June 24, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Josh: no mac.
TheNor: NONE of it???
Pete: they could make your life simpler, but they could make it more complicated!
