this is not for people in ministry

hi.

it’s me again.

asking for volunteers to volunteer for this September surprise even though i’m not giving away details! sorry. you’re just gonna have to forgive me.

a lot of y’all are in the ministry… but, i’m hoping to hear from a few of you who aren’t in paid ministry. yes, you can be a lay ministry type person or a service-oriented person helping out somewhere, just not a vocational minister. make sense?

no. it didn’t. i know…

ok. let’s try this: lemme know if you do anything to make somebody else’s life better, and i’ll promise to let you know what in the HECK i’m looking for and whether or not you’re a fit.

that’s the best i can do.

ok? ok.

any volunteers?? you want in on the action?

for those of you have an inexplicable aversion to commenting: mandy[at]mandythompson[dot]com… PUH-LEEEEEEEEZE email me ’cause i can’t do this without you. come out of hiding!! this is your chance!!!

kthx.

  1. Good morning Manders!

I do little things to make people’s lives better.

    1. I listen
    2. I give advice
    3. I write little note cards when I feel they might need
    encouragement, or prayers.
    4. I don’t pay attention to position when it comes to the person,
they are who they are, and I treat them like a human being, and
    not their status.
    5. I remember them.
    6. I will bake a cake, or brownies to lift their spirits.
    7. I give them little nicknames…
    8. I write poetry for them
    9. I share God’s word with them and try to fit it to the situation.
    10. I am just me, and try my best to be me, and let them know I am open
to whatever they want to share with me.

    How’s this:)

  2. we were in full time ministry but now we are in the lay category and enjoying this season of life until the next ministry door opens up.

By the way we had our little girl on Wednesday!

  3. Germany counts? ;)
Don’t know what you’re up to, but now you got me curious :D
Besides being who I am, I’m a Soldiers’ Angel (www.soldiersangels.org). Is this enough? ;)

  4. I’m normally adverse to commenting, but since you’re calling us out . . . I’m not originally american and I work in HR.

I’m just hoping this mystery involves cricket (“[cricket cricket]“) . . .

    Cam

  5. I’m a mom. That counts as helping right? And taking on the scheduling from our “official” worship leader.

Cameron – liked the cricket joke! Our kids can now sign up for a cricket team but still no baseball. Had to import some gloves and balls so they don’t grown up throwing like girls. Even if they are – girls.

  6. hmmmmm, well i’m not in ministry. i have a lunch buddy in an inner city school who i meet with weekly. i volunteered as an overnight helper at a family shelter for 3 years. i help my mom. my husband and i do meals for people in need. i do things to bring awareness about Down syndrome…but not enough yet. i smile and laugh. i say please and thank you. i leave comments when you beg. i’m really sweet! LOL

  7. I blog.

Definitely don’t get paid for it (otherwise my husband would probably be endorsing it much more strongly than he does).

    And pray sometimes.

    Don’t know if I count.

  8. But I am a wife.

Don’t get paid for that either, except in kisses and smiles. Don’t think I’d trade it in, though. but it is definitely a ministry. And one that … I apparently have a lot to learn about still.

  9. Hum. . .let’s see.

    1) I lead women’s Bible study and coordinate the women’s ministry at my church

    2) I’m on the core leadership team at my church.

    3) I fill in on praise team (vocal or piano) when needed–also at church.

    4) My hubby and I sponsor a table at the annual Campus Crusade for Christ fundraising dinner.

    5) I’m a prayer partner with a young women in North Carolina

    6) I mentor a young mother with three girls in my hometown.

    7) I volunteer as a faculty sponsor for our campus ministry student retreat.

Is this what you’re looking for Mandy??
