Your place

We belong someplace. The day we are given a name we are also given a place which no one but we can fill.

~maya angelou

Do you know your place? Do you know yourself well enough to know the impact that only you can make in society? Do you know which ‘part of the Body’ you are? Have you taken time to examine your talents, passions, gifts, interests, and personality to see how He crafted and made you for a specific reason?

I think some of us don’t even know where to start when we think about making a difference. I think some of us get lost just trying to figure out what we can give. I think we don’t know ourselves, aren’t confident in ourselves, and aren’t comfortable with ourselves.

I think some of us think we don’t have anything to contribute. We get down on ourselves, our weaknesses, our shortcomings, and decide we have nothing to offer.

Yes I have weaknesses.

Yes I have struggles.

Yes I have fears.

And OH MY GOSH YES I have regrets.

But, I don’t let those things stop me. In fact, I boast in my weaknesses because these are the areas of my life in which Christ’s power is most evidently at work.

Don’t let your weaknesses negate your strength – HIS strength in you.

Choose to live a life that OWNS the place you have in this world. Be proactive in who you are and what you do. Don’t waste a day, a breath, a thought.

It’s yours. And, it’s yours for a reason.

DO.

Quote: thank you, Tracie.

  1. This idea is exactly where we’ve landed in the “True Worship” study! Thank you for the encouragement–and the month-long collection of examples of “DO-ers.”

Maybe we don’t DO because we’re still trying to BE? Or the BE-ing happens in tandem with the DO-ing?

    Just thinking.

  2. Sarah: AND, once we figure out what we’re made to do, we will also know what we’re NOT made to do. it works in many many ways.

    @ng: hey! don’t know if I know that song… hmmmmm…..

Candi: LOVE what you said, even though you made my brain hurt! :)

  3. I like this! God has called each and every one of us for a specific purpose. Sometimes that’s even being a wife, mother, friend, sister, etc. Sometimes it’s right under our noses!

  4. Our lives so need a purpose to which it can give the animation of its brains and the eagerness of its heart.

    Doing what’s essential
    Doing what’s promising
Unexpectedly you are doing the unattainable.

just sayin to my own heart tonight.

  5. Know thyself is truly Great Wisdom.

I know nowhere near ‘enough’ (concerning all there is to know about self – it’s purpose, it’s treachery, ways to work out one while avoiding the other) – but i do know that!

He works His purpose through us – that gets messed up if we don’t have Clear thoughts concerning Him and ‘me’… knowing both equally well.

Many can come to a better understanding of self in the DOing while others lose themselves and the ‘plot’ in it.

Life – is complicated. Few of us ever get things quite right.

    Great Post!

  6. James 1:22-25

22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

    23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;

24 For once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

  7. The wind is moving
    But I am standing still
    A life of pages
    Waiting to be filled
    A heart that’s hopeful
A head that’s full of dreams
    But this becoming
    Is harder than it seems
    Feels like

    I’m looking for a reason
Roaming through the night to find
    My place in this world
    My place in this world

Not a lot to lean on
I need Your light to help me find
    My place in this world
    My place in this world

    If there are millions
    Down on their knees
    Among the many
    Can You still hear me
    Hear me asking
    Where do I belong
    Is there a vision
That I can call my own
    Show me
