What did we DO?

So Hey. I’ve been looking forward to this post for a few weeks! I’ve been waiting for the moment to ask for feedback – ask for you to give me a shout & tell me what this month has DOne in your life, what you’ve DOne because of it.

Here’s some of what we’ve DOne around here:

  • Over 30 of you have written posts to encourage this little blog community to DO something. I say over 30 because I’ve honestly lost count – many of you are on our “everyday DOers” list, but some of you just jumped in anyway. dang. I’m so overwhelmed!! :) “Thank you” doesn’t suffice.
  • Rice rice rice – That GAME was the MOST fun for me, and we earned a few POUNDS of rice for a family. For a few days’ worth of food. I’m not lyin’ – y’all rock.
  • Blog Action Day ’08 – How many of you signed up? I heard from a lot – let’s make sure we follow up on that! WOW!!!
  • Human Sex Trafficking – raising awareness. Plus a report from one in our community – you don’t wanna miss that discussion.
  • Parenting, Bible Study, personal growth, surrender to God, budgets, materialism, missions, poverty, adoption, friendship, teamwork, connecting to others across the world, oh my gosh the list goes on and on. We’ve discussed these things – we’ve DOne these things… Am I the only one beautifully overwhelmed by this!? wow!!!

So, tell me more – how has this discussion impacted you? Who challenged you? Who encouraged you? What are you thinking now because of this? What are you DOing?!

Thank you to EVERYBODY who participated. I’m overwhelmed. Do I keep saying that?!

  1. I think we have all been challenged equally, and I think the other everyday do’ers would def agree with me there…because the words I had to say, if I went on another doers blog that next day, it would almost add to what I had to say, it was like this big ” HANDS ACROSS BLOGWORLD” you remember the coorelation, ” Hands across america.” right?

We came together, to write about what was screaming from inside us to be spoken to the world…we learned together how to shape culture, without it shaping us…we learned how to defy the odds, through faith, and the a little helping hand, we learned to just ” DO” whoever, and wherever you are, and it will prove worth it, we learned about lives outside of our own, whom we will never understand what it is like to walk in their shoes, but I ADMIRE their courage to stand for what they believe in, farther than outside their backyard, but the coolest part of all this…

I don’t believe any of us, KNEW that simple words would become a megaphone to the world…just because we said them.

I can’t help but wonder how many people googled certain things, and would find a doers blog, and I bet in knocked their socks off…

But mostly, I learned that its a smaller world than we ever realized, and making a difference is as simple as saying YOU CAN.

Thank you Mandy for the wonderful idea that I am sure came straight from your heart:) I love you!

  2. and let me just make sure everyone knows that when I said ” DO” whoever…I meant whoever you are you can do something! For all you weird thinkin people out there…who shall remain nameless!

  3. This campaign has spurred many conversations in our home of no only what we DO but why we DO it. It has been good to talk about DOing with the man I said I DO to so many years ago.

  4. Mandy–thanks for putting this together and thanks to all the “do-ers”–it’s so awesome to hear all that everyone is doing. With all these, the world is a much better place–keep rockin!!!!

  5. Okay, so this DOing thing has really humbled me… and made me feel so uncomfortable and bad – like I should be DOing so much more. I mean, I DO things, just nothing that seems so incredibly awesome… My DO is mainly for grandkids and keeping them and being a helpmeet for my wonderful husband who is ALWAYS DOing. It puts me to shame.
It has made me more aware of things to DO and things that need to be DOne and has encouraged me to get up off my cushion and get busy DOing!

  6. Accountability – It has been easy for me to get wrapped up in my everyday life, my world without really seeing my world.

When we moved here I was determined to reach out to neighbors and DO something . . .or maybe more accurately: let the Lord DO something in and through me. I wanted ears to hear and the courage to do.

But, long story short, I found myself not doing any of that. And this little bloggy of yours has held me accountable. It’s been in the back of my head when I see a neighbor out taking a walk when I really want to head back in the house and get on with “my” stuff.

When I’ve taken the leap lately and intentionally sought out connections in my little neighborhood I’ve already been blessed beyond belief. And I can’t wait to see what else the Lord is up to.

So thank YOU for doing and letting the Lord DO through you . . . it’s inspired us be doers, too :-)

  7. Rindy: I LOVE your enthusiasm! Thank YOU!!!

Merrie: Is this a good thing or a bad thing? not sure… ??

Lei: :) Thank you! That’s TOTALLY what I was hoping for – a change of mind – heart – focus. Again, thank you!!

  8. Lei hit the nail on the head – the accountability.

I live so much of life in my head! I have a huge imagination and so many ideas. So much going on in there – and it seems so little trickles out sometimes. Blogging has really forced me to look at what I do, how I describe it and once it’s written – it’s out there. It’s no longer in my head. Yet, I didn’t necessarily say the words out loud to anyone. It’s a new level of accountability.

I loved reading about the DOing going on all over the world. Because these are stories we might not hear otherwise. Soooo much better than People magazine – Don’t you think?! :)

And the 29.09 post from our Christian sister (convert from Muslim) yesterday just melted my heart.

Thank you AGAIN Mandy, for opening up these Bloggy doors.

  9. What a great series!

For me, it’s been that awesome koinonia – the sharing stuff. It’s so encouraging when you’ve been plodding along your DO to come alongside some other folks also plodding along their DO and DOing it together.

Thanks to all contributors. It’s meant a lot to me to read each story. This is what community is all about.

    Keep on keeping on everyone!
