Isn’t laughter funny?

November 6, 2008 · 15 Comments

Have you ever listened to laughter? Like REALLY listened to laughter? Have you ever noticed how strange it sounds? Doesn’t it sound like something halfway between choking and crying? Have you ever listened to it outside of context? Have you ever thought it strange?

Laughter can be somewhat embarrassing sometimes. Especially because when I find something really funny, I tend to snort. : )

    I also noticed that recently!

Laughter is sometimes… out of the world for me. It’s something that comes naturally and unexpected.

    yes, i have!
and why, when we are sad, does water come spurting uncontrollably from our eyes? where in the world does all that water come from, exactly? do we all have a puddle in our frontal lobe just waiting for the occasion?

i’m sorry… i got off topic. glad to know i’m not the only one who thinks about random stuff like that.

YOu know what I hate…when I’m watching a sitcom and all of the sudden I’m VERY aware of the laughter from the audience. It ruins the sitcom for me and I can’t even follow the story line.

my housemate and friend (jlo) mentioned your name today and raved…. now I can see why! :) I just got done reading about 4 of your pieces and found myself on a rollercoaster of intregue, laughter, and randomness…. I LOVE IT! It is refreshing and spunky… for lack of a better word. I am so glad that I stopped by and will be adding you to my “places I like to journey ” so that others can enjoy your musings as well. :) many blessings be encouraged as you undoubtedly bless and encourage others ! :)

Half the time when I’m laughing with friends I forget what started us going because I’m laughing at their laughter. It’s so funny to watch someone else laugh… totally contagious.

This reminds me of the Mary Poppins song ‘I Love to Laugh’ when they are flying around and having tea near the ceiling. Laughing is a funny thing.

we have a new staff member at work that you can hear laugh from five blocks away…NO JOKE!!! he doesn’t laugh often, but when he does, there is no hiding it!!! it definitely goes with your third question and being strange!!!

my favorite is the cackling laughter of a little one … when my kids get going, I nearly bust!

Yeah …. but I like to listen to clapping. Listen to a crowd of people clap sometime. It sounds exactly like rain.

Like Fred, I love to listen to my children laugh hysterically. I rarely laugh that hard anymore, so sad, I know. But my children…. busting a gut is so much fun to me… Or babies…. babies laughing is awesome.

yeah, especially some people’s in particular. Mine can be so people tell me. If I get to laughing really hard I’ve been told I sound like a chicken clucking…….nice.
