When you were a little person, and someone asked you what you wanted to be when you grow up, what did you tell them?
Is that who you are now? Is that still who you want to be?

I can’t remember what I told people…. I don’t even remember what I wanted to be when I grew up.
Where I am now though, leaves me speechless….
I had a lot of rejection growing up, and I learned to cook because I never thought I’d get married (one girl I liked ran - RAN - when I told her I wanted her to be my girl.)
But now I’m married for 7 years to a beautiful woman who loves God…. and I have two wonderful sons. God has placed me in a position to help people be set free from demonic oppression, and that ministry is being expanded by the Lord’s hand. Did I think I’d get here? NEVER.
God is too good!
BTW - I think this is my first comment on your blog!

And no……that is not what I am doing today! I think my mother had a good prayer life!

I don’t know what I wanted to be before 5th grade but after our class trip to Washington DC I wanted to be an archaeologist! When we visited Mount Vernon on that trip a team of archaeologists were excavating an underground waste system from when Washington lived there! I was mesmerized.
Well, I’m not an archaeologist, not even close! And that’s fine with me! I do enjoy the Discovery/History channel programs that show other people digging up cool stuff.

When I was 7, I remember specifically somebody asked me what I want to become. I told him I don’t know, but what I do know is that I’m going to write a book when I grow up.
I’m all grown up. Written a book? Not yet! But I’m getting there!

fireman and then later, an engineer. I don’t even think I knew what an engineer was, just that people went to Georgia Tech to become engineers and I loved Tech basketball.

When I was small, I wanted to be a Mamma….then in Grade school I wanted to do hair….then in Middle school I wanted to be an artist….in High school I said I wanted to be a business women, cuz I thought that’s what they wanted to hear…..Then I grew up, and got smart, and now I am an artistic mamma, who does my girls hair, and doesn’t care what people think!

Amazingly YES! All I ever wanted to be was a wife and mom… and I was that, even though I did do “other” things… mostly I stayed at home. Now, I get to stay at home and keep my grandchildren. I had low expectations… Now, I almost wish I had wanted to be something like doctor or queen! I would have been great as both!

I used to say that I wanted to be a ” pom pom girl” when I grew up. No lie.
I can’t believe I just admitted that on the world wide web.
That is not who I am today. I’ll leave it at that.

Ramsey: I didn’t laugh. But I smiled. Is that ok?
Ally: I forget - you’re not American, right?

I wanted to be a dolphin trainer at Sea World. Then I wanted to be a teacher to follow in my mom’s footsteps. By 7th grade, I wanted to be a psychologist.
And yep, that’s what I’m working for.
mandythompson // November 18, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Robin: What were you? Why did you stop?
Theresa: 30? You made me laugh.
Ally: I have a dear dear friend from Northern Ireland. Apparently her dad is a well-known pastor in those parts. I have a soft spot for the accent because of her.
sara // November 18, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Ok, Mandy. I SO wish what I’m about to write is just a funny joke, but it’s the God’s-honest truth:
I wanted to be a nun and have 9 kids.
I was too little to get the rules then… but eventually I figured it out and now I am neither a nun, nor do I have children.
Dreams dashed.
After that I was going to be a performer… sing, act, write. I did all those things on a super small scale and it was a whole lot of fun. (My dog isn’t all that impressed with my performances now, though…)
mandythompson // November 18, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I…
I……
I think I’m speechless.
sara // November 18, 2008 at 2:59 pm
If you knew my family it wouldn’t be as surprising… our family vacation every fall was to spend a week at the Mother House (where hundreds of nuns lived) to visit my aunt, who was a nun.
She later married a priest, but that’s a WHOLE OTHER story.
Nuns and priests babysat us when we were kids. It was the most normal thing in the world at our house. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized most people don’t hang out with nuns for a week on their vacations…
I do have some photos of me all dressed up with the veil and everything when I was little. They had fun with us when we came to visit

Gitz: (That’s Sara, y’all.) I think you’re New Year’s Resolution should be to write a book… This sounds like something straight out of a Sue Monk Kidd Novel. LOL!!!

Singer…..
I sing on Sundays…helping to lead worship.
It’s not what I had in mind as a little girl but, it’s for God’s glory and not my own.
mandythompson // November 18, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Jennifer: I think that’s an upgrade!

I wanted to be a doctor, and a mom. Being a mom happened first, and I still am holding out for some day having medical knowledge in some form. Who knows :-)?
edfromct // November 18, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Up to about 10 I wanted to be a cowboy just like my hero Hopalong Cassidy.
The two subjects I enjoyed the most were Math and Science. I knew I did not have the brains or discipline to become a scientist, so choice a career in accounting, which I retired as.
If I had the brains, and was a genius, I would have tried to change the world, or maybe blow stuff up, as a scientist.

I wanted to be a writer (still do), a teacher (does sunday school count?) and a mom (one day, I hope).
In jr. high I entertained thoughts about being an anesthesiologist. I don’t know why. Maybe because I felt smart saying it.
mandythompson // November 18, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Ed: “Or maybe blow stuff up.”
Ally: um… Fred McClaughlin would be his name. Don’t know what church, though. And he just moved churches. So that probably doesn’t help…
K: Sunday school SOOOO counts!!

an astronaut, a doctor, a writer, a teacher, a mom, a wife, a missionary, a zoo keeper, a photojournalist, a journalist, …
as of today i’m getting my degree in cross-cultural ministry, as wells as minors in teaching english to speakers of other languages and Bible. the teaching part might slightly resemble zoo keeping; the missionary part will hopefully be right on target; and taking all of these insanely intense Bible courses at obu will surely mold all of that into something better than i could accomplish otherwise. i’m still a writer at heart, but the math and science side of aerospace and medicine caused me to shy away from both professions, hehe.
i’m still not sure what my set-in-stone career will ever be, but i pray it encompasses everything i am passionate about. and hopefully the wife and mom part will slip into there somewhere. =)

an artist and a writer. And yes, that’s what I do. Although I don’t get paid much of anything for it and that’s why I’m ringing up people’s freakin’ diapers and cat litter to buy groceries.

a mommy.
yes….and yes! among other things that I do as well. But that was the one I wanted to be the most, and it still is.

i wanted to be a teacher.
i’m not. although i do find myself in informal teaching positions pretty often. so i guess that counts for something.
