I do it w/ kid gifts mostly. My MIL sends tons of bubble bath for my girls, but they are extremely prone to bladder infections. So we always give that away. And any duplicate bday gifts. I hate trying to return stuff. We put it in a bucket & use it for kid bdays, Cmas or White Elephant.
Adults don’t exchange gifts in our family, so that makes it easy.
We had a special shelf in the hall closet filled with gifts ready to be re-gifted……my mom is a teacher and always got tons of stuff she couldn’t use or didn’t want ……
I mostly just do it with bath stuff, lotions, etc. After awhile, I just get this huge stock of stuff that I’m never going to use. Might as well give it to someone else.
i don’t mind at all admitting that i regift. rather than that just tossing a present. or WORSE—just stashing it away in some “i hate all this crap” closet.
Not me, but one year hubby regifted a gift card o he had received from his dad and stepmother. He figured he was going to get the same card for his friend so he saved himself a trip to the store.
When friend opened the gift card he asked, “Um, why does it say ‘Love, Dad and Trish?’”
Whoops. Needless to say he has not regifted since.
Heck ya. It’s the little known R in responsible consumerism. ReDuce, ReUse, ReCycle, ReGift.
After Christmas every year I put the unwanted gifts in the storage bin along with the Christmas decorations. I put a sticky note on them to remind me who they came from, and regift them to the other side of the family next year. And I have no shame about it . . .
I heart presents. Any and all kind. Even if they are regifting…heck yes…I don’t care. If it would go better for somebody else (or me) then why the heck not? People need not to be snooty about the whole thing. Seriously.
Heck yes. Doesn’t the bible say It is better to regift than to receive?
It’s like that old song – “Give, and it will come back to you…”
Wow. So you guys are gonna justify this act by throwing scripture at us? That’s a bold move, gentlemen!!!
PS: come back and hit the “view results” link at the bottom – it’ll tell ya what the rest are saying!
Nope… I have never regifted. I was always afraid I would get caught.

H: Never? Free yourself from such fears this Christmas!!!
Mandy: gasp. Confessing that about your MIL on the net? you are brave.
I think I’ve only done that once. It makes me feel strange. Knowing somebody gave to me once.
ha.

Becca: You wait. It won’t become a problem soon enough…
Ram: Wow! A whole closet full!? I like that idea! Especially if I forgot a friend’s birthday or something… Brilliant.

i regift OFTEN. sorry. i know its like pretty much sub-human to do that, but what can I say…i’m a scrapper.
oh yeah, teachers are famous for it. i used to get like 10 boxes of candy or something like that. i’d always regift them as hostess gifts. =)

“Regift” is not a word. Besides, it leaves a bad taste in my brain. Like castor oil.
People are not “gifted,” either. They have “talent.”
Just like nobody “authors” a book. One “writes” a book.
An accomplished author would never regift a gifted blogger who authors with no talent.
“When it comes to cliches, every writer must know the quick from the dead.”
(You’re killing me, Mandy!)
Nor: Um… Huh? So… Do we also knock Shakespeare for making up words? (Note: I didn’t make this one up. Blame it on pop-culture, yes. But not me!
)

Mandy: I think this is an e-mail discussion. Can’t afford to give away trade secrets to complete strangers.
(Look for it soon.)
