Now, I’m not the only one set up for failure!

So, a few others of you have jumped on the bandwagon. (Well, except for Tam. I kinda snatched her up with me.)

One thing we all have in common, we want to push ourselves to be better. Do better. Create better. For the right-brained artsy types, discipline does not come easy. I’ve found this week that public humiliation and fear of failure are both GREAT motivators!

Me: 100 songs this year, that’s 2ish songs/week.

Tam: 2 chapters/month

Russ: 1 song/week – you wanna be an official part of this list? ;)

Heidi: ?? Whatcha got?

Lori: You in?

Natalie: ? Wanna commit to your passion as well?

I know a few others who have some goals… Poets, photographers, designers, crafters, etc… CREATE IT & POST IT!!! Who else wants to be added to this list of madness?

  1. Hey, Mandy! Remember me? The person who came charging out of the blue wanting to start up a songwriting community? I’m still up for it. I need to see how my schedule is panning out this semester, but I’ll keep you posted. I think bi-weekly would be best.
I don’t think I wrote a single song last year. (I’m so done with 2008!) But I really want to start up again. At the moment, my spirit is a bit…downtrodden, shall we say, but I think accountability may help. So add me to the list. I want to write 2 songs per month. I know…not so ambitious, but I have to start somewhere. :)

  2. I’m in. My goal is to read way more, specifically a book every 2 weeks. I’ve already ordered 4 from Amazon including Pure Praise.
We are currently planning a song writing retreat for some of our worship team peeps. I’m hoping that this time next year I can jump in and say “we’re going to write ___ songs this year.”

  3. Robin! Girl. We gotta get something going. And, I too am feeling the weight of the winter/spring schedule… Maybe we could set up some type of low-maintenance situation? Just enough to stay motivated?

Fred: nagging? And are we supposed to hold you accountable to that!? ;)

Jon: wow. That’s a lotta reading! Go for it, man! And add a few songwriting books to your list to get ready for next year. Look into berklee music’s online course syllabi – they have reading requirements there! It’s a GREAT place to start.

  4. I just read a post somewhere about a man who took a picture a day. I want to take a picture a day!

And read, one of my life goals is to read all the Great Books, I need to get going!

  5. i don’t have a website but maybe I can add that to my list of things to do. I will let you know when (notice I typed when not if) I start one!

  6. H: um. Are you being mean over here??? ;)

Joshua: THAT’s something we’ll look forward to!

    Mandie: OH wow. GREAT!

Jessica… Be sure to let us know when you get one going (not if!). ;)

  7. Are you feeling a little guilty.

Did you guys realize it’s already the 7th.

I have some work to do.

Hey I can’t wait to read and hear and see all this stuff!!!

  8. Tammy: Me too. I’m really more excited about others stuff as well…

H: HAHA! Me? Guilty? nah. Already the 7th? yes ma’am. I’m 1 1/2 songs closer to my goal! ;) You betta get on it!

  9. Gitz: I’ve come across that recently as well. I think it’d be cool if some people from our blog community signed up. So, speaking of: what are YOU gonna do? eh?

H: oh… Well. You need to do some writing! That’s not even a complete sentence. ;)

    Tam: Yes. we do.

  10. Yes, Gitz is amazing!!! I love her words and her amazing heart!!!

@Mandy – just wanted you to know Ijust finished a half Coke/Cherry slurpee it was so good. Especially in this 71 degree weather!!!
Just wanted to let you know.

  11. I maybe young (well minus the grey hairs and the wrinkles in my hands) But write more??

Geesh… 1 chapter is going to get me!!

Remember I have teens in my house and an 8 yr old pinging off the walls.

  12. Man, you all are really nice… all I did was point out a flickr group. :)

Well, I did order a book where you read the bible chronologically in a year (it tells you what to read every day to accomplish that) so I am committed to do that as soon as it arrives. I think I’m just a little too tired and in too much pain today to imagine being able to commit to anything. I’ll try to get creative when I feel a little better.

As far as the camera goes… I don’t think taking photos is going to be a challenge… I play with that camera non-stop; I’m just not sure if anyone is going to be interested in 365 pictures of Riley. Considering I don’t leave the house that’s all I have to photograph!

  13. H:  Good point. I can’t fathom life with youngins….

Gitz: You know, this challenge, at least once/week for you, might help you “explore” your house in ways you wouldn’t otherwise… Looking for cool shots & all. I think you could be REALLY creative with it! We’re fans of you.com, you know…

  14. heidi – yes! whats with the hands lookin old all the sudden? mine too. drives me nutz!

mandy – great idea for Gitz!! sometimes, you can be super duper smart.
