The Other Songwriter

A few days ago, my much-needed day off was interrupted by a snow day = classes canceled, library closed, everybody stay home. I kinda sorta made Drew leave the apartment and study somewhere else. I needed to write TWO songs, which necessitates a LOT of “Leave me alone and stay outta my head” time.

I felt bad about inspiring him to leave when answering “yes” to the question if unforeseen presence would bother me that day.

(sigh)

So, he wrote a song to make me feel better. And now I’m trying restrain my jealousy at how easily he churns this stuff out:

I am at Panera in a snowstorm
not in traffic honking my carhorn
my coffee is cold and I want a refill
but I’ve had enough and I need to be still

(Chorus):
naw uh, naw uh, readin my books and other stuff
Naw uh, naw uh, old people talking all kinds of fuss

this dude’s got a hat and a toothpick in his mouth
but the hat’s warm and fuzzy, not like in the South
-ern hemisphere is where the penguins live
flappin through the water like Flav o flav

Chorus again

Bridge:
Thiiiiiiiiiiiiss…is a totally different part of the song…
with a brand new tune, but I won’t let it rock on
We’re gettin baaaaaaaaaaaaack to the same refrain
you already heard it twice and now it’s comin again

Chorus again.

  1. For something he didn’t spend that much time on it is brillant.

I also like the “bridge” very much.

As for the rest of the lines you know I am not to crazy about all that rhyming.
