  1. I read all of the above.

I look for substance and authenticity. Lots of blogs are a total waste of time. And response from the blogger to those that comment.

  2. Definitely all of the above, especially when they’re all in the same blog (though maybe not in the same post – that’s a bit wild even for me)

The other thing I now look for is ease of use, quite apart from the content. Which is why mine desperately needs the makeover that it’s going to get!

  3. This is a hard question.

Ummm.. I stop at 5 each day. Each one has a distinct purpose for me. These are my girlfriends, women whom inspire me.

I lurk on many and I try to not to write so spiritual on mine.

Louise, I haven’t got in habit to respond back on mine yet. Because simply of time.

  4. I like em all. I love my reader, makes it quick and easy. Every 30 days I prune it and get rid of the ones that aren’t as insightful as I had hoped they would be.

  5. I prefer blogs that are insprational and moving, or just downright funny!

When I sense that a blogger is just trying to increase their traffic, comments, or connectivity and popularity, I leave. It begins to feel like highschool all over again.

  6. i have self set “rules” for my own blog (things Ido/don’t do). I try to adhere.

for example, i dont talk about poop.

even if my kid makes a huge mess and my day and carpet are ruined because of it, i still won’t talk about it.

i usually don’t read blogs that talk about that either. ; )

i am drawn to blogs that include the whole community of readers, not ones that seem to speak to a few inside people. that is difficult.

  7. I like all of the above too. But I come back to a blog that makes an effort to have a relationship with those who read. IE: return comments and/or return visits.

  8. This is so interesting to read.

Ok. In an effort to answer my own dang questions here…. I’ll give it a shot.

Right now, I’m not really looking for more blogs to read. I stick with those who inspire and encourage me in this time of trying REALLY hard to be creative.
I’m not frequenting blogs as much as in the past, but I’m still there when I can be.
    Ok.
Here’s my blog-character list, if I had one:
    ~authenticity
    ~humor
    ~creativity
    ~gutsiness (goal-oriented)

    That’s about it.

  9. i read blogs that fit in all those categories. but the ones that draw my heart in do so because i feel a connection with the author. and there isn’t a list of reasons i can put for why that happens sometimes and why it doesn’t other times. my heart just knows when it experiences it…

  10. I read a lot of blogs. The ones I like most are either written by people I know (or have gotten to know) or are funny. Basically, they have to be written by people I think I’d connect with offline.

  11. I look for: mandythompson.com
Ok, I read a few others, some about children’s ministry (job), friends updating their lives, but mainly it is the blogs that ask questions that make me think and respond that I frequent most.

  12. I like to see community. A bunch of bloggers feeding off of each others in comments (including the author), and not just a bunch of bloggers only commenting to the author (who probably isn’t even going to respond).

I like blogs to be eclectic, for the most part. The blogs I read every day tend to engage me in several different areas.

  13. I’m pretty eclectic in my blog reading, but most of the time it’s either because they entertain me or because it feels genuine… like what I see is what I get. I appreciate people being real.

  14. I also don’t stick to just one style in my reading or writing. I like variety.
There are a few blogs that I read that are topic orientated, but I don’t seem to visit them as consistently as the more personal blogs.
Informative is good, but personal (and it’s range from funny to inspiring to chatty to whatever) is more like visiting a friend than just reading. It is more relaxing, too.

  15. Funny and sarcastic and with dark humor always keep me coming back. They reflect the way I am. But it also depends on my mood mostly.
    I love yours though. :D

And no, I’m not sucking up.

  16. Hi Mandy

This was interesting to read through. Thanks for posing the question. I usually like to read blogs of those I know or have gotten to know through some connection ie family, friends and people I’ve “swapped” something with ie something I’ve made like a sewing kit for my daughter, a recipe etc. etc.

I agree wholeheartedly with what Alece said – your heart knows and you connect and return.
