We were all heading in the church for a Wednesday night music practice.
The building was empty – doors locked – lights off – empty parking lot except for our cars.
I unlocked the door and we walked in.
Immediately we could hear the music playing in the sanctuary. Loudly. Very loudly.
When the guy in front of me got five steps into the building, the music stopped.
Silence.
We all froze.
I sent him to check our sound-booth upstairs, which was locked… He unlocked the door to find everything powered off.
We then checked the small church to see if anyone else was in the building.
Nobody but us.
To this day, we have no idea how music was playing in the church.
We used to be long to a church that was 200 years old, very small, in the middle of this very small town I call home. Lots of strange things happened in there at night..can’t explain any of them, but I was not the only one who experienced them. Some others didn’t believe those things happened. Until one night the police called the Pastor to meet him at the church, there were complaints of music coming from the sanctuary at 3 in the morning! nieghbors complaining, and the bell was rung a a few times. When they got there, it was silent, no break in, no one in the church, no sign of anyone in the church..just unexplainable. CREEEEEEEEPY!
Hey, even the Holy One likes to jam once in awhile. He was warming up the equipment!
Rewind 7 years ago: Gabriel (son) was just born a few weeks back. One night I didn’t have to work the next day and told the wife I would handle the feedings. Set up the monitor on my side of the bed….got up for the first and he at a bunch. A few hours later, he’s crying again. I get up, go in the other room and he’s sound asleep. I go back to bed and he’s no longer crying but cooing and giggling. I turn right around to go back in and he hasn’t moved….still asleep. I wake the wife, explain the situation, crank up the monitor so I could hear it in Gabe’s room. There was crying, laughing giggling, cooing going on in the monitor while I WATCHED my son sleep.
.
We moved 2 days later…hasn’t happened since
I’m pretty sure it was August Rush.
LUHUHUHUVVVVV that movie!
woah. i am getting major goosebumps reading all these stories. bazaar!
weird things have been happening lately! Remember last sunday when that big noise happend and a small piece of the ceiling fell! creepy!
Last year, we had some poeple visit our church as invitged guests. During worship we played a hymn, which is very unusual for us. I don’t even remember which one. During the hymn, the daughter of the speaker broke down.
She got up to testify later. A day before, while in the shower she started hearing music. Loud, almost deafening. She said it seemed to be coming from everywhere. When she got out, she still heard it. She went out into the house and asked anyone else if they heard it – the mother had heard it too, same song. There was no apparent source for it.
The song? The same hymn we had oddly decided to play.
Zephaniah 3:17 tells us that God sings over us. I like to think that’s what that was.
Mikey, that’s an incredible story – wow!
God and His angels were just rocking out!!!
‘cept I think it was salsa music playing or meringue or something like that!
so they were rockin’ out latino style?
Who says God is white?
Rider on a white horse? But the rider… What color was He?
The rocks were crying out, and those particular rocks had been imported from Spain, hence the Castillian flavor of music – Flamenco!
Brilliant.
‘das cuh-razyyy.
Ooooohhhhh, that’s crazy! Were you scared? Or just amazed?
I remember once in high school, our youth group spent the night in a church in Texas (we were en route to our annual church camp destination). My friend and I were up late, whispering – probably about boys – and we saw a white figure run up the steps that were across the room. The next morning, we asked who had gone upstairs, and no one did. Also, no one was wearing white.
We were terrified, but consoled ourselves that if it was a ghost, surely it was a friendly one. After all, it was in a CHURCH!
Who knows what we saw that night. I think I would have died right there if we heard music along with that sight!
Scared? Honestly, I wasn’t creeped out until after it was all over with and I had a second of sanity to think about it. But in the moment I just thought: “Huh. I wonder how music is playing.” – not realizing it was a bit inexplicable!
Sounds kind of like when we thought we had a hobo living under the stage in the auditorium. We have a building alarm with motion sensors, and we set it all the time.
For a while, we would check the building for strays, make sure all the lights were out, lock up, set the alarm and go home. We’d very often over the course of a month come back in the morning to find lights on back stage, and in various other places, but the alarm was still set.
There were also times we noted food missing from the refrigerator and food pantry. Once, we even found water still standing in the baptismal pool, yet we hadn’t had a recent baptism. Like someone had set up house and had taken a bath.
We never found anyone, nor saw anyone. One day the whole creepy mess just stopped, and we’ve never seen a hint of our ghostly visitor.
Funny how church buildings are sometimes the creepiest places on the planet.
THIS STORY creeps me out the most!
I’m totally creeped out.
But that August Rush comment had me CRACKIN’ UP!
For Toby:
Your story had me cracking up. SOmetimes monitors can pick up other babies within a certain radius if you are using the same monitor. I wonder if there was another baby in the neighborhood and they used the same monitor???
That is funny!
THAT makes it even funnier. To think that they moved two days later and it might’ve just been the kid in the apartment upstairs. WOW
That’s crazy!
Ok so if u aren’t creeped out enuf I got a few;
My bff woke up to her sons walkie talkie screaming in the kitchen, she went into the kitchen and it was turned off, she goes back to bed passing the table to which a dark figure is sitting at her table. She goes into her bedroom to wake her husband up, he starts to get up as she describes him and then realizes it sounded like his dead friend. She goes back out into the room and no one and goes to her sons room, and notices his rocking chair was rocking on its own. Freaky enough? I won’t sleep over there ever!;)
wow that is some crazy stuff.
We had a old house on a hill that everyone called “haunted”. Most neighborhood probably have one. We would play in it during the day but never at night. By the time I was old enough to stay out at night I no longer believed in ghost.
Sometimes I wish a was that little boy again.
Oh man, I have major heebie jeebies crawling up the back of my neck reading these! I’m going to be in the house alone all night tonight too. Bummer. Guess my yellow lab will be up on the bed sleeping tonight.
I also have a baby monitor story: One of my best friends and her husband had just adopted their little baby girl and had the monitor on while the baby slept down the hall in her crib. In the middle of the night my friend’s husband woke her up to tell her he just heard his name being whispered on the monitor. She thought he was crazy and so she listened with him. It happened again and she heard it too! They checked the entire house and no one was there. She didn’t tell that story for a few years because she thought people would think they were nutty.
So cool!
On another note, I just made a post of you and a friend who I would like you to meet. Please check out when you have a moment:
