In 30 years of life, I have…
- been born on a Sunday morning.
- been “born again” on a Friday night.
- never been out of the country.
- been across the country.
- always wanted to visit France.
- broken hearts.
- broken my brother’s arm.
- been hungover. Once.
- skinny dipped. More than once.
- held a baby sea turtle in my hand.
- lived on an island.
- sung backup for Mac Powell (Third Day).
- watched an entire season of “24″ in 48 hours. Twice.
- never smoked. And don’t intend to.
- laughed so hard that I wet my pants.
- eaten countless bowls of cereal.
- married the man of my dreams.
- married six years.
- moved 1,000 miles from home.
- written songs for 14 years.
- led worship for 12 years.
- taught myself to play the guitar.
- performed before thousands of people.
- recorded two albums. One was written/recorded in 24 hours. The third is on it’s way.
- driven a motorcycle without brakes.
- totaled two cars.
- owned a convertible (see above).
- survived a hurricane.
- been addicted… to many things.
- been an aunt. (That’s my favorite one.)
What about you?
Got this idea from Eloranicole.

Mandy, if that wouldn’t make a terrific song, I don’t know what would! Maybe you can call it 30 Years of Livin’ or The Years of My Life. Some lines more powerful/important/usable than others, but definitely the concept is there…especially reading the first handful of lines really seemed to cry out to be set to music in some way.
Hmmm… Great thoughts! I’ll put this in my collection of ideas.
If you go to France – Paris for the fashion/people watching/monument/artsy stuff, the Alsace region for magical/fairytale/quaint stuff, Riviera to enjoy sunshine/people watching, and Provence for the Tuscany feel while in France – besides vineyards, there are the fields of lavender. They (the French) do have the best croissants.
Dang. Will you be my tour guide?
Ooooooh… this is good! Maybe I’ll do this for a birthday post.
And I can’t wait until you go to France. Imagine the music you’ll make when you’re there…
But I don’t know how to play the accordion…
Good post. Love learning about you.
I’ve done a lot in my 38 years…39 on September 30th
That’s a long way away. Hang on to 38, woman!
Great list. I love that you can include eating cereal with singing backup for Mac Powell.
But, isn’t that normal? I mean, I’m sure that most who’ve sung backup could include cereal as well.
I feel like I know you so well now. Seriously, though. It’s fun to see some similiar life events. Thanks for sharing.
So we have things in common?
You have packed a lot of living into a young life. I won’t make a list because, at 65, mine would run into your Monday post.
I was born during World War ll. My father was in the Navy in the South Pacific and did not see me until I was two years old.
Holding a baby sea turtle and living on an island are two very cool things.
I did spend a year on an Island, well a big Island, Japan. I swim with some dolphins in Florida.
The best thing on your list may be marrying the man of your dreams. I have lived with four different women. Each ended as more of a nightmare than a dream.
I did use too much drugs and alcohol at different points in my life. Some of the lesson of life are hard to learn.
You made it through a hurricane, I have survived an earthquake. It is not good to upset mother nature.
When I was twelve a hurricane flooded my home town, Stamford, CT, in 1955. There was a rescue boat parked in our drive way instead of a car.
Make sure you keep building that list Mandy.
Wow Ed. You’ve lived an interesting life, sir… Lots of stories and wisdom and experiences there.
How funny, I was born on a Friday night and “born again” on a Sunday morning!
Hung over many times, long ago.
Skinny dipped once, and I have to say it sounds fun. Ummm, maybe that could be a date-night plan with my hubby.
I held a turtle also, but not a baby turtle like your cool story. Mine was at a turtle farm in Grand Cayman. I was an adult at the time, but was as excited as a little kid!
Mac Powell? How fun is that? Great pic of you guys on stage.
I’m teaching myself guitar right now. I’m having a blast, but progress is very slow. It’s a wonderful way to be alone and worship God.
In my high school parking lot I rode my friend’s motorcycle and decided I didn’t need to bother with the shifting thing. He was freaking out watching me speed around in 1st gear. Duh!
You were in a hurricane? Wow, what an experience!
I remember the first time I became an aunt. An amazing joy. From that day on I’ve been known as Aunt B. I love it!
Practice Practice Practice!!! That’s the best way to learn. (I say this realizing that the main reason I’m taking so long to learn piano is because I don’t practice. grrr)
Made me think of the Tim McGraw song. I love him. I love that song. And, now I’m wondering if I could share 39 things in 39 years? I dunno. Might steal this.
Okay, I’m going to try this on my blog. NO FAIR I have 12 more!!! Love ya girl.. been prayin.
You know, though – the chick who gave me this idea had 30 lines, but didn’t have 30 years. I think I’m the one who turned it into an age thing! Sorry.
you can do …. TWELVE if you want. NO pressure!
I like this. May have to do it…although I haven’t been alive 30 years!!
Do as many or few as you want. It’s a great way to reflect on the little and bigs of life!

This year and last started my love affair with being friends (solid friends) with a bunch of thirty year olds or older. Yay for us being fabulous and I love it. Love it. Love it.
Totally stealing this
i’m SO stealing this idea for my 25th bday in a couple of weeks.
the fact that you sang back-up for mac powell is pretty dang awesome.
eh. Don’t flip out. He was doing a favor for one of his best friends, and I just so happened to volunteer at the friend’s ministry. I was the worship leader, and he wanted a bit of backup. Just a story of being a the right place at the right time.
#13 would have been the END of me. We have watched the first two seasons so far, and each in about 10 evenings. But TWO DAYS?? AHHH!
I like your song about the end of the day!!
Praying for your dreams to come to fruition, Mandy.

29 comments…I had to make it thirty
I think thirty is a pretty awesome age…I’m personally looking forward to it (though content where I am now)
and I was there when you sang with Mac Powell–it was pretty awesome, as I recall!
You were there.
And I nearly wet my pants…
we should go overseas together sometime.
