34. You’ll Miss Me (Back to my style)

We all stereotype others, right?

Thoughts? This one is very simple… But I like it that way. Anything else?

You see through me
like a bottle of mud
you don’t know me from anyone
I’m not just anyone

and I will smile
and if you blink
you’ll miss me.

I’m much more than
a first & lasting impression
your assumptions could be wrong…
you could be wrong.

And I will sing…

I will be me…

  1. The vocals are a bit shaky on the verses. You sound unsure of yourself, or that the key is uncomfortable, or something.

I love the chord progression and melody in the chorus. (LOVE)

Though in the chorus I feel like you could do a little more vocal parading. . . you could do a variation of the melody a few times, and still keep the simplicity.

  2. Shaky… hmmm… I listened to it again, and I’m pretty sure I sang it just like I hear it in my head. I think the cadence of the words is a bit awkward. Maybe that’s what it is. Or, it’s just that I can’t spend hours on every song like I’d want, so my “demo” tracks aren’t usually album worthy.

I’ll think about changing up the chorus a bit, giving it some more attitude… Thanks for the input, Becca.
(PS: I never really liked the song, but glad to hear that you like some of it! :) )

    • I don’t think that at all. I love it. All the way through.

It might not be one of your favorites, but it’s raw and real. And this type of song DOES NOT need to be over sung or produced.

      Leave it as is.

I would listen to this ALL DAY long.

  3. i think, stylistically, this is my very favorite of your songs. i know you said in the above comment you don’t like it, but i think it has a LOT of potential. i wanna cover it! ;)

    • Ok. Here we go, JR. And you know I’m gonna ask: What do you mean by “stylistically?” I need specifics, ma’am. ’cause I don’t know what makes it worth covering. (You can have it if you want. Just send me the royalties…. What’s 10% of $0.00? Hmmm. Gotta do the math on that.)

  4. Don’t hear a lot to do to this one from a production standpoint, Mandy. I think adding anything to it from would be a distraction.
    I do like this:
    “and I will smile
    and if you blink
    you’ll miss me.”
It evokes great imagery of the tiny communities we have all over this great land of ours which have great features – mostly the people – but are so small they’ll be gone from our eyesight in an instant.
I think you blend this concept into human relationships nicely. I don’t see much to do to this one, really.
    Just my 0.02.

    • I like your 0.02… I can automatically hear a big production with some songs, others are clearly meant to be simple, and others… well, I just don’t know. This is one of those “don’t know” songs. Glad to hear your thoughts! Thank you.

  5. I see this one as a simple production. I agree with Paul–there’s great imagery that calls for simplicity.

    I really like:
    “You see through me
    like a bottle of mud”
    :)

  6. I like the song, but of the ones you have posted, it isn’t one of my favorites.

I agree with everyone who said might be better off kept simple.

I really like the emotion you sing with, especially at the end.

    I also like the lyrics.

The music and lyrics didn’t quite come together for me at the beginning.

Given the number of songs you are writing I am amazed you can find so many different pieces of music to fit each new song.

  7. Well, as you know, I know nuttin’ about writing or producing songs. But I like the words – and the meaning behind the words – in this one, Mandy. It’s probably because it resonates with a situation I’m in right now, feeling very overlooked and ignored and misunderstood. But even if that’s the only reason why I liked this…well, I still like it! :)

  8. i like this one a lot, mandypants. i think it’ll definitely resonate with so many… it certainly does with me.

my one tid-bit: the last line of the first verse. i like the way you wrote it out (i’m not just anyone) better than how you sung it (you don’t know anyone). the written line seems more fitting, more … honest and raw.

    i love you.

  9. YES. This is so a Mandy song. And I like whatever key your voice is in [and I have no idea if that was the right way to say that...] but you really came through.
