I don’t know what I’m doing.

Psstt… Hey. You. Wanna hear a secret?

I don’t know what I’m doing.

I just write. I am spending the year writing songs. This has somehow blown into recording a second CD, making connections with a ton of other songwriters, and all this other stuff. But here’s the thing: I don’t know what I’m doing.

I mean, I have dreams. I have hopes. But that’s it. I’m just on this ride.

I’d love to have someone call me up someday and say: “Hey. I’m working on a project and wanna use one of your songs. Can I?”

Or to have a publishing company shoot me an email saying they want to promote a few of my tunes.

But, right now? Right now I’m just writing. I’m honing my craft. I’m planting my feet as a songwriter. I’m packing my portfolio FULL of examples of what I have to offer.

And then, maybe one day… Maybe one day soon, I’ll pull out one of these songs and offer it.

But for now, I write. I learn. I grow. And write some more.

What are you doing?

Something Saturday: Songwriter for hire (well… for “free”)

So, back to this whole “100 songs” thing… I’m growing and stretching in CRAZY ways. I’ve challenged myself with challenges within the challenge. Some I’ve mentioned, but some…. some y’all don’t even know about.

I also want to learn how to write for other people. So I thought I’d do a song each month for someone else.

That someone is YOU, my devoted weekend reader! Think on it. Leave a comment. Email me. Whatever.

And your’s might be my first “someone’s-song!”

28: Aunt Marvel (Hector’s Super-Hero Aunt),

Yesterday we were there to experience Hector’s proposal to Honey.
Today we get to meet Honey’s crazy Aunt Marvel:

I have to say that this “old-school-super-hero-theme-song” concept seemed more impossible than anything I’ve even dreamed of putting together this year. Drew, yet again, challenged me beyond what I thought I could accomplish.

And I’m glad he did.

Thanks to my twitter-friend, Aunt Marvel, for giving me the idea for this name.
