Namaste.
There are a few things you need to know:
- Drew and I like to watch TV shows, just not when they’re on TV. So, we borrow/rent/buy the DVD sets instead.
- Some shows can now be viewed online as well.
- LOST is one of those shows.
- Drew and I started watching LOST back in August.
- We’ve watched all 5 seasons since then.
- Kate is my favorite. I’m sorry. But she is.
- Sawyer is a very close second: it’s his dimples. And long hair. And southern accent. And… never mind.
- We finished the finale of Season 5 on Friday.
There are two things I need to know:
- What the crap just happened?
- HOW AM I GONNA MAKE IT TO 2010 TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT???
Commence theorizing now.

Here’s MY prediction about what’s next:
If the bomb exploded, then they’re all dead. They can’t be dead, or else there wouldn’t be a sixth season… Therefore I conclude that the magnetic flash thing went off… Not the bomb. Now we can only pray that the flash transports them forward into the right year.
Drew says Jacob’s not dead either.
One thing’s for sure: Locke sure as heck is! dang
What’s this TV you speak of?
Would you believe I have NEVER seen a whole episode of LOST?
I just never got started watching the show and then figured it was too late to start and I would just be confused if I started watching now.
Steven: Yeah. Don’t get into it unless you can start at the beginning. Trust me, it’s confusing enough without starting in the middle!
Michael and I are at Season 4, Episode 13 (Season 4′s finale). Our pastor talked about Season 5′s finale in his sermon yesterday. He used the disappointment at the non-ending and continuing unresolvement as a metaphor for false theology. (You like that word—”unresolvement”? I made it up. Can you tell??)
It made me wonder if it’s even worth tracking down Season 5 online and spending however many episodes only to be disappointed and have to wait LONGER for answers—if they’ll even give answers.
I am so thankful for a senior pastor who watches television–two shows only, he says: “Lost” and “24.”
(By the way–where can we watch Season 5 online? I mean, we’ve spent so much time on it now, it seems a waste not to see it through, right?)
Candi:
First, I didn’t find Season 5 to be disappointing in the big sense. We did get a lot of answers to the Dharma stuff and what happened after they left the island and the “smoke monster” and stuff like that…
It’s just that the finale left us with two HUGE surprises. HUGE.
You can watch the last half of Season 5 at abc.com… They don’t put all the episodes up while the show is airing. But check it later, and they may have the entirety of the season up for viewing. You’d wanna start at the beginning if possible.
When the DVDs come out, you can usually find it at Blockbuster or whatever, as well.
I think that we need to know who the guy with Jacob was at the beginning of the show. To my knowledge we don’t know who that is. He may be an important player in season 6. We only saw Jacob contact some of the people on the island. Did the other guy contact the other people on the island? Jason Calacanis asked if the other guy’s name was Esau. Good question. I do like your theory, though.
I’m pretty sure the “other” guy – “Esau” haha – is the one who has the ability to show up as other people. Claire, Jack’s dad, Ben’s daughter, and now Locke… Manipulating people to pull some grand scheme together. He did tell Jacob that he went to great lengths to get through the “loophole.” He was probably also the one showing up as “Walt” as well… He may even be the smoke monster, honestly.
Esau. Great name!
I think the dude at the beginning with Jacob is…well I don’t have a clue. I’m mean, sure, he’s in a black shirt while Jacob wears white, and he wants to kill Jacob, so he’s obviously a bad dude. Unless you look at the fact that everybody on the island’s life would have been normal if they had never been touched by Jacob.
I personally think by setting off the bomb, they caused everything that has already happened to happen, rather than prevent it all. I think that was Faraday’s intention in the first place…but I’m probably totally wrong on that.
How are you going to deal with waiting until 2010 for more LOST? I’d say by watching another J.J. Abrams creation = Fringe. More mindblowing goodness there.
For all your LOST theory needs, visit the Lostpedia: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Jacob & Richard are like the Gods of the island. They don’t age.
And that dressed-in-black dude? He’s probably the Satan of the island. Accuser. Black fog. blah blah…
Fringe? I’ve heard of it. Do I want more madness in my life, or should I just stick with catching up on “The Office” in the meantime?
The Office, maybe I’m too old (that’s a scary thing to write), but **YAWN**
Guess it depends on what you’re looking for. Comedy or a show that mixes X-Files, Alias, and LOST up in a blender?
I’m done with “thinking” shows right now… So, the lighter the better. Hence, The Office!
I’ve decided to watch it all from the beginning again. My memory is so bad that I continually stay lost while watching Lost — I can’t find my way through the maze of memories.
So…until 2010…I’m hoping to gain some understanding by reviewing.
(Oh…I think it was the time machine magnetic thingy…everything went white…???)
I started from Season 1 just a few months ago and I can’t keep up. I get so confused. Sometimes Drew and I stop and say “wait… What happened in the last episode? What were so&so doing before this? Where is… blah blah blah” It’s SO confusing! Throw time travel in there and my brain melts out of my EAR.
I watched a clip of Evangeline Lilly (Kate’s actress) on some talk show. She said that she’d have to watch all the seasons prior before filming for the next. She couldn’t keep ‘em straight either. I have a feeling I’ll be doing some of the same next winter!
It all has to do with Jacob and Esau. It’s the battle of God’s. They can’t kill each other so they play it all like a game of backgammon. Like the very first episode on the beach. Locke was playing backgammon and talking about the light and the dark.
Jacob was never in the cabin, it was his nemesis. When the ash circle was broken, it let him out. All the people that have been dead that we have seen alive, (i.e. Christian Shepard) have been Jacob’s nemesis. He’s been influencing stuff from the start.
Richard Alpert was originally from the Black Rock.
Random thoughts….
Yep.
Yep.
Yep… That’s where I’m going with this. “Esau” is the bad guy…
But, Richard from the Black Rock? haha. That’s funny.
I think he’s been there as long as Jacob & Esau have.
I think he arrived on that ship. because the ship is the black rock. oh my! I could talk theories for hours! But it is crazy that Locke’s destiny the whole time was to “kill Jacob” and Ben was a pawn for all of this to happen.
Do you think we will see Clair and Charlie? I do. To pass the months between now and Jan we are starting back at Season 1 and watching through….oh my word! I love that freaking show!!
But the bomb is the “incident” and we know that they live to the current (weirdness) because Chang has a prosthetic (sp?) arm in all of the videos we see in past seasons….so….that leads me to believe that everything resets to that time. I dont know!!! it is craziness.
oh, and i have watched it 3 times since Wednesday. ridiculous!!!
Richard could very well be coming on that pirate ship…
But about Claire & Charlie: Claire = yes. Charlie = no. Charlie is dead…
You think the bomb went off… Hmm… I dunno. How’d they live, Lynse?
Charlie cant be dead….i think they may be alluding to him with the DriveShaft ring being found and the guitar case that Hurley was carrying. We never saw him die….
What if it was what Jack said and it just reset everything? What if they do end up just landing in LA…
we all can just speculate at this point…but why would Chang have a prosthetic arm…unless you are right and the bomb didnt go off.
I don’t remember the prosthetic arm. How’d I miss that?
As for the resetting, I don’t think it’ll fly. Because if that’s the case then we’d probably only have one episode in the next season… They’d just land in LA & go about their business. There wouldn’t be anything else to discuss. They never crashed on the island, etc etc… I’m thinking, in order for there to be a sixth season: 1) they’re not dead & 2) they’re still on the island.
That can only work if the magnetic time thingy went off instead of the bomb.
I’m sticking to my guns here, Lynse… But you can hold out hope to see Charlie in 2010.
haha. i think i just want Charlie back. bottom line. he is my fav.
Clearly, he is.
This has been quite a soul-searching conversation. Glad we could bring your obsession into the light!
Thank you for letting me “talk it out” i feel much better. and do you take checks or can you put it on my tab? I am sure we will have these types of sessions more. ha!
HAHA! I’ll need $$ up front, payment at the end of the session.
Check, cash, or C.O.D only. No credit cards.
I think this is all a dream in Bob Hartley’s head.
Who’s Bob Hartley?
thanks for the love mandy
Jacob I love Esau I hated…. You do the math on the religious over tones of the show. There are many…
I have given up trying to figure it all out. I watch the show and enjoy it much more now that I just let the story happen.
I lost count of the religious connections. haha. get it? “lost”
Okay so this may be my favorite subject of all time. LOST is awesome.
So I’m with you and I think that there was a flashy thing that sent them back to 2007. At least I hope. Because all dead would stink…unless the bomb causes their past and therefore their present to disappear and they go back to the point in time when the plane crash would have occurred only it doesn’t. But logistically I think that wouldn’t work well because the show would have to bring back Boone, Shannon, Charlie, Ana Lucia, Libby, Eko and so on and so on, and that would be a little far fetched casting wise. But it could be cool, though difficult to resolve in the final 16-17 episodes.
And I want somehow for Juliet to still be alive, although considering that Kate is your favorite, you may not see it that way. But I have lots of love for her. That ending was heartwrenching. And awesome. And Locke is really dead! Which makes me sad.
And how about UnLocke/Esau whoever that guy was? That was the craziest twist I’ve seen in forever.
Who do you think Jacob was referring to when he said, “They’re coming”? I imagine it’s Jack Kate and them, but who knows for sure? All I know is I really really love the show.
I’m a HUGE fan of Juliet as well… But Kate is the “bad girl gone good” and that gets me in a deep way. Juliet isn’t dead… Not if the rest of ‘em are alive as well. The flash just messed with time. That’s all.
I think “they’re coming” referred to the Latin speaking people who carried Locke to Jacob. Because Jacob showed up & told Alana that he needed help… I think the help he needed was to kick UnLocke’s butt.
(ps: I think you’re right about the dead being dead. There’s no way they cast ‘em all back to be a part of the show.)
Mandy,
I watched from start until S5E8 in ONE MONTH, then I had to watch weekly like everyone else… so, it’s been all LOST, all the time for a several weeks. I know how you feel, HOW WILL WE LIVE UNTIL 2010?!?!
And I don’t have any theories… I just enjoy the show.
YOU CRAZY!!!!
HOW did you make it one month? That’s mind blowing. seriously… I’m gonna die between now & 2010. What am I gonna do without Kate until then? She doesn’t know it, but we’ve developed quite a codependent relationship in the past 8 months.
my brain hurts. we’ve been watching since the beginning. i can’t keep up. maybe esau is jack bauer?
I think Jack Bauer & Chuck Norris will come in at the end of the Sixth season and rescue all of ‘em!!!
WE LOVE LOST! It has definitely become a family favorite!
I think it’s all going to end with them getting back the day of the crash and somehow avoiding it and safely land in LA like nothing ever happened… wouldn’t that be a sucky let down of 6 seasons of my life?
That may very well happen, Brandon. But the writers won’t leave us there. The last scene/montage of the finale will show them all converging serendipitously in LA and becoming friends.
If they don’t write it that way, and just leave them all going through life without memory or relationships, I’ll personally spearhead the protest.
I used to have theories. Then I got overwhelmed and extra lost, now I just enjoy because it makes my head hurt trying to figure it all out.
You should totally check out Fringe though. it is super freaky good. And it will be back in the fall.
Chris and I got more and more confused with each episode. Sad thing?
We kept coming back each week.
