Tell me WHY it’s your favorite

Most of us, barring those who have puzzling aversions to favorites, have a favorite song. Or at least, have a ready list of 2 to 5 songs that we would call our “favorites.”

What is your favorite song (or songs) and why?

And before you go giving me a bullet pointed list of songs, I want to know WHY. That tiny little three-letter word can be SO significant when a songwriter asks the question.

WHY is it your favorite?? And, if there’s a list, is there something that collection has in common?

Do you want to know…?

Do you want to know that I’ve submersed myself in reading/learning/practicing songwriting over the past 4 months? That I’ve read three different books on songwriting and have subscribed to a half-dozen blogs by the pros in the field?

Do you want to know that my husband will be attending graduation this weekend, to receive a diploma for a degree that he finished 5 months ago, and is currently chipping away at a second degree that he won’t complete for another 6 months? So, this weekend, we’re celebrating something he did last year, and not in any way finding closure in the ritual because our lives aren’t really changing much right now…

Do you want to know where we’re going to go after seminary? (You do? Me too! I’ll tell ya when we figure it out.)

Do you want to know that I’ve never found flowers to be so beautiful as in the past few weeks, after having spent a winter with 3 months of snow on the ground?

Do you want to know that I’d give just about anything (within reason) to have Patty Griffin’s songwriting abilities?

What else do you want to know?

Take It or Leave It

Last week I met with my college girls’ small group, and we took some time to evaluate our lives.  I’ve been thinking about our meeting since then. I’ve been considering the questions that we asked ourselves, and what I can do in response… The past few days have been challenging for me, in light of our conversation. And I want to walk forward with what I decided.

So, I wanna ask you: if you had a chance to rebuild yourself, what you would “take” & what would you “leave?”
Meaning… What would you take to include in the new you, & what would you leave behind..?

I’d leave:
~My spiritual independence.
~My stupid laziness.

I’d take:
~My past.
~My husband.

Ok. Your turn. (And be honest!)

MUSIC WITH A MISSION

Remember Russ? The crazy rapper who did the hip-hop song with me? He’s going to Honduras! Since he’s a friend of mine, good ol’ southern boy (if you don’t know what the phrase “good ol’ boy” means, I can explain), and amazing musician/worship leader, I want to help him… by helping you help him help them.

I’ll let him explain what’s going on:

July 6th – 13th, 2009 our team will be in the Central American nation of Honduras. Our destination will be the capital city of Tegucigalpa. We will be flying from Atlanta, Georgia.

I am involved heavily at my church in Music & Media. I’ll be hanging out with the band of the local church and learning about how they use music in worship and to impact their community there. I’ll also be sharing some original music (translated to spanish) as well. But I’m more excited about worshiping WITH these wonderful church leaders! And maybe having the opportunity to share what God is doing through me here in Valdosta.

If you would like to help ME (RussHutto.com) raise funds, I am giving away a copy of 10 of my songs from the last few years and 3 bonus wallpapers in a downloadable digital album. If you donate $15 dollars or more I’ll send you the link to the digital download. Since we’re using Paypal for ALL of our donations, I’ll just need you to send me a copy of your digital receipt (contact me from my contact page) and I’ll shoot you the link!
