59. A Minor Experiment
Welcome to one of the weirdest songs I’ve ever done… A few weeks ago I played around on my guitar until I happened upon this interesting sounding theme. Then I asked myself which genre or style of music would it best fit? I didn’t really get an answer from myself, so I decided to experiment with different styles.
This is what came of it:

Has a little bit of a Charlie’s Angels vibe to it.

In a good way, that song is all over the place. Very cool. Some parts were disco-ish, Jewish polka, smooth jazz… Yeah, no wonder you had a hard time classifying that thing.

That’s a great dancing song. I love the creativity in mixing different sounds, like the gong in one part.
I hear that, mixing the sounds of different song styles, with the “remix” Girl Talk songs, although I don’t like most the rap language Girl Talk uses.
The last few months I have been listening to a lot of Bossa Nova. My most played album on iTunes is Luciana Souza’a The New Bossa Nova. Most played song “The Waters Of March”.
Also jazz singer Diana Krall’s versions of “The Look of Love” and “Temptation”.
I read an article by a well-established songwriter recently – she said that she always writes at least two versions of a song before she picks the right one… I can understand the need to test out the “feel” of a song with different styles. I really liked how a few of these styles turned out. I think it really shifted the tone or message of the theme. It was an interesting experiment for me!
I really like it all, but I’m thinking you’d be able to guess which bit I like the most.
The run up always makes me think it’s going to go into Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies though…
That’s only when I convince myself it’s not a remix of Charlie’s Angels…and not getting distracted by Strongbad. hahaha

i like the 2nd, 4th (a LOT), 5th (LOVE), the 6th one sounds totally bollywood ( just sayin), 7th is all “mr. gadget-ish”.
so…yeah….i like 4 and 5 best me thinks.
