What would I do if I couldn’t do what I love to do???

This was one of Drew’s favorite questions, and Karen consequently won one of the CDs of the giveaway:
“If God took away your ability to do the thing you love the most, what would you do instead?”
Well, Karen, I think I’d cry.

That’s my short answer. Really.

The long answer? I love songwriting. I really do – and at this time, it’s what I love the most. But, if that was removed from my abilities, I think I’d do graphic art instead. As a kid/teenager, I was deeply involved in drawing & painting & designing. I have ribbons and awards to show why many of my hometown folks expected me to attend an art college.

Instead of going into graphic art or visual design, I headed into Sociology. Over a decade later, I would much rather doodle all day than be a Christian Counselor, which is what I was aiming for.

Looking back, I wish I had that graphic design degree.

  1. I definitely see you enjoying working with your creative side. If you lost your ability to sing about your faith, you would instead be creating works of art that express it.

Religious posters, paintings, sculptures can all be just as powerful an expression of faith as a song is.

  2. can i tell you how much i needed to hear this post. i’m wrestling with the fact that life’s too short to not do what you love to do and feel called to do.

  3. Wow. Ya, who doesn’t need to read this!
Hello Manders, my favorite mandythompson.com blogger LOL:)

I have to say that I was watching ” Touched by and Angel” today, where Tess, the one angel gets alzheimers. And she forgets how to do everything, including sing.
So yea, that was a sad episode, BUT thinking back to Beth Moore’s ” The Inheritance” the 1st session- She talks about how her dr told her that her right knee is hanging by a thread, and her reply was, ” Well, its seen some good times” or something to the effect.

She started naming at the things she got to do when her knee was good and healthy….

So this whole post puts me in deep thought(are you surprised?)
Are we asking a direct question, ” What if you couldn’t do what you love to do” as an anymore statement, or one that says what if you never got a chance to do what you love to do?

    Ya know this girls brain..

  4. I think I’d cry, too. It’s hard to imagine not doing something that seems to be a huge part of your soul. At the same time, God’s plans don’t always make sense.

Thanks for answering my question, and thanks again for the CD.
