Write Anyway Day: Yellow

We haven’t done one of these in a while… Y’all remember? A “write anyway day” is a day where we have to write, even though we may not feel like it. We write anyway.

Right?

I’m facing a seemingly-insurmountable case of writer’s block. In fact, it’s the “perfect storm” of writer’s block. My life is not on a regular schedule right now, I’m working on tweaking a song that I’m hesitantly sending to a dude with some serious connections, I don’t have many big chunks of alone time, and at all hours of the day I’m focused on what Drew and I are going to do after seminary. Combine all of that and there’s not much room left for creativity.

Y’all with me?

Let’s try this:

10 minutes of writing time.

The starter word is Yellow.

The goal is to incorporate all senses in your writing, whether it be poetic, prose, story, lyric, random stringing together of words, whatever. Just smells, tastes, feelings, touch, sight. etc… Be descriptive. Make your words come alive.

Go.

The Places I’d Go!

Let’s pretend.

Let’s pretend I have $30,000 in spare change – between my couch cushions, of course.

And let’s pretend I can spend it however I want – on whatever I’d want. And let’s say that none of the money can be used for anything “responsible” or “altruistic” – I have to spend it with all manner of selfishness and materialism.

How would I?

First, I’d buy a cute car. Cute, like vintage-VW-convertible-cute. Duh.

Then I’d set aside about $5,000 for the home studio I’m dreaming of having one day. You know – like a place where I can sing at the top of my lungs and not worry about waking the neighbors. That kind of place.

Then I’d probably do some traveling. Where would I go?

hmm… To see a friend in South Africa, of course. Then see another friend in England. Then to the Bahamas for a nice long warm sunny vacation. And I may never come back. But if I did, I’d then hop down south to spend some quality time with some quality people. Then maybe take a few weeks and hang out on the left coast. I’ve got hugs for a long list of people over there! Then, eh, I’d probably end up back here. I mean, I’d miss my man, right?

Surprise! You found $30,000 between the seats of your car!!! Where are you gonna go?

Thanks for the post idea, Natalie.

HE’S the man!

Here’s another question/answer from one of my favorite bloggers, Edfromct:

If your roles were reversed, you were the husband, Drew was the wife, how different would your lives be? Related: How would you be as a man? How would Drew be as a woman?

I can’t even wrap my mind around this question about roles being reversed, because I’m so glad I’m a girl. And I’m so glad Drew’s a man. I grew up a tomboy – loved to play in the dirt – ride ATVs – bikes – build forts. I was never the type to play with dolls or have my wedding day planned when I was thirteen. That just wasn’t me. I was happy with grass-stained knees, dirt under my nails, and crayons in hand. As a kid, I thought it was better to be a guy. That life was easier. Those grass-stains were greener on boys’ knees.

But, now, all grown-up, I look at life and I’m glad I don’t have the pressures and responsibilities of life that is placed on the male shoulders. Yes, I’m talking the “traditional” view of men & women. That men are to provide – work hard for their family to be secure and safe. I’m ok with that view. In fact, I embrace it. I embrace having a man who is morally, spiritually, and financially responsible for us. He’s got the hard job. And I don’t want it. I like being protected. I like knowing I have a strong man to take care of me. I know he’d die for me if he had to. And I’m so thankful. I don’t want that job.

Call me crazy, but I don’t wanna wear the pants in the family.

Daycation!

New England towns (and states) are packed together like a can of sardines.

This makes low-budget tourism reeeeeeeally easy. Since we moved here, we’ve taken a number of day-trips:

  • Touring the Ben & Jerry’s factory
  • Climbing Mt. Monadnock
  • Finding the teeny-tiny stone called Plymouth Rock
  • and other stuff

This Saturday, we headed north into New Hampshire & Maine. We spent the day at a music festival and went on a tour of a New England brewery. We had a BLAST – well, except for the fact that it was hot as you-know-what outside, and we don’t have air-conditioning. Even so, the trip was well worth it.

It was a GREAT daycation! Have you ever been on a daycation? Where’d you go? What’d you see?
