What do you want?

Note added on 8/7: This discussion is going so well that I want to keep it running for another day. If you haven’t chimed in yet, please do so! We have some worship leaders watching how this pans out. Thanks for stopping by y’all!

Help me out here:

What songs, subjects, and themes do you want to sing about in Church that aren’t already being covered by today’s worship songs? What are we missing in our lyrics?

What would I do if I couldn’t do what I love to do???

This was one of Drew’s favorite questions, and Karen consequently won one of the CDs of the giveaway:
“If God took away your ability to do the thing you love the most, what would you do instead?”
Well, Karen, I think I’d cry.

That’s my short answer. Really.

The long answer? I love songwriting. I really do – and at this time, it’s what I love the most. But, if that was removed from my abilities, I think I’d do graphic art instead. As a kid/teenager, I was deeply involved in drawing & painting & designing. I have ribbons and awards to show why many of my hometown folks expected me to attend an art college.

Instead of going into graphic art or visual design, I headed into Sociology. Over a decade later, I would much rather doodle all day than be a Christian Counselor, which is what I was aiming for.

Looking back, I wish I had that graphic design degree.

My thoughts, exactly… (or, let’s talk college football)

Parker Page, one of the giveaway winners who was sensitive enough to know my husband was a University of Georgia graduate, wisely asked:  Mandy- what are your thoughts on the upcoming UGA football season?
I’ve given the upcoming season a bit of thought, and I have a few things to say:

First, I think if we could have a guy jump over another guy like that again this year, it would be fabulous. I also think the Dawgs have a hard time living up to their potential, but don’t tell anyone I said that. I grew up watching UGA football with my dad, so I really do know about scrimmages and tight ends and safeties and end-zones and stuff like that. But I don’t get into football like I’ve grown to love Red Sox baseball. I’ve totally become a Red Sox fan since moving to the Boston area. It’s like they put some kind of fan-vitamin in the drinking water here. I’m defenseless. I’ve been to one game, sang Sweet Caroline at the top of my lungs, and hope to go to another game this month. Big Papi is my favorite player. Even though he’s in the news for steroid use. And even though he spits in his hands before he bats, I really like him. I have this thing with saliva – it totally grosses me out. Like I’m starting to get a bit nauseated just writing about it. Even if I see spit on the sidewalk or something, it just grosses me out. I have to have the water running when I brush my teeth because I can’t stand to spit in the sink and look at it. EWWW. I’m so grossed out just typing this. Really. I am.

Go Dawgs. Sick ‘em. Woof Woof WOOF!
