How you can fight sex slavery and human trafficking.

A few of you had questions about yesterday’s video, and wanted to know more.

I got it from @gener8online (gener8online.com) which raises money for rescue homes.

Here’s more:

From what I can tell, Aaron Cohen (@aaroncohen777) is one of the world’s top abolishionists. He’s written a book (Slave Hunter), and works for Abolish Slavery. Warning: His twitter feed can be bone-chilling when he goes on undercover operations.

A very well-established organization is International Justice Mission (@ijmhq) – these people are on it.

Also, Justice and Care (@justiceandcare) is a large anti-trafficking organization that reaches all forms of slavery.

If you want statistics regarding sex slavery, check out Slavery Map@slaverymap – which gives global info on reported incidents.

A few other organizations I keep my eye on through twitter:

If you’re wondering how in the world this kind of injustice even happens, read this article about an Iraqi teen who spent 10 years in it.

These organizations and links and names are just an introduction to modern abolition. If you want to help, pick a well-known established organization and write a check. Seriously.

(Note: S. LOIAC… – if you’re reading this and I missed something important, tell me! I didn’t even know where to begin.)

It’s easier if we don’t know.

I sat here for probably 20 minutes wondering if I should post this.

Fighting the sick feeling in my stomach.

Realizing it’s easier to live life without this information.

Fearing that some of you may be offended.

Hoping you won’t be.

Then, while remembering the conversations Drew and I have had in the past two years. Conversations where our knowledge has compelled us to help those who are helping stop this madness. And I changed my mind.

If you don’t know, you won’t do anything.

I hope you will be offended.

We all should be.

Questions:

So, I’ve decided to reinstate Whatever Wednesdays. And I’ve also decided to have them on Wednesdays instead of Fridays. It just works better that way.

To get us in the spirit of WW, I thought I’d throw a few questions out for your ponderance throughout the weekend:

1) What happens if you live in an RV and are put under house arrest?

2) Why is the sky blue?

3) How can weather news persons be frequently wrong, and yet still keep their jobs?

4) What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you?

After Starbucks yesterday, I headed to Blockbuster for disc 4 of The Office Season 4. I was driving along. Watching the crazy New England drivers in front of me. Trying to make my way around the van stuck in the middle of the intersection.

Suddenly, this song stopped my conscience like a late-night mugging.

I was swallowed up in the sound of the song.

I couldn’t help but hear it.

And share it.

And, by the time you watch just a few seconds of this video, I will have listened to the song at least a half-dozen more times. Picked apart the lyrics online. Asked myself how in the world he packed those verses full of rhymes and verbal rhythms.

Because I hope when this year is over one of my last 21 melodies will feel a little like this:
