Take your pick

I recently told Drew “People are my books.” I think a better way to say it would’ve been “blogs are my books” – I used to be great at keeping up with other blogs, then I got all busy with moving and life and moving. Now things are settling down & I’m returning to some blog reading – namely during the weekend. And only some. BUT, maybe there’s time and room for a few more. So, I thought it’d be fun to share our favorite blogs here. And check ‘em out this weekend.

So here’s the way this’ll go down:

1) the name of the blog, with link.

2) why you like reading it

3) why you think Mandy will like reading it

And we’ll go from there. Mkay?

  1. I have pretty much given up blog reading except for a few lovely ladies like yourself. So, I have nothing to add here. ;-) I miss the “blog days” though from like TWO YEARS ago…. but DANG life gets busy!

  2. Limited to recommending just one? Egads. I have several “VIP” reads (including yours now!) of regular people writing about their lives. One I think you might like:

    1) Definitely RA, http://definitelyra.wordpress.com/

    2) and 3) (I think why I like it and why I think you’ll like it are similar)

RA is a wife and medical writer in the northeast. Her husband is a HS teacher and volleyball coach, and she knits scarves for his entire team each year. She writes about her work, but mostly about her domestic endeavors, including kitchen renovation using almost entirely Ikea supplies and her quest for the perfect sugar cookie recipe. She mentions church going and her spiritual journey sometimes, and that’s something I’d like to see her open up about more. Also, you’ll probably like her frequency of posting. She writes just enough so that you get something each week, but not so much that you’ll be overwhelmed if you only read blogs on weekends.

Can’t wait to come back and read the rest of the comments and recommended blogs. I think Rachel Evans’ blog was recommended to me by Google too and I’ve been reading it for a couple weeks now.

  3. 1) Cooking Blogs like Annie’s Eats, Joy the Baker, and Pioneer Woman are fun and great for getting new recipes to try without having to spend $$ on a cookbook.

    2) The Big Picture from the Boston Globe – http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/ – is really great. Awesome photographs telling the story of major news issues like Afghanistan, the World Cup, the oil spill. It’s news with pictures. Hardly any reading – but it tells the story through some very moving photographs!

  4. Thanks for this post Mandy. I’ve been looking for some new reading material, so I’ll just pirate all the good ideas people have put up here.

  5. okay, i’ve been really thinking hard about this one. since i’m only allowed to recommend ONE. you’re making me sweat, girl!

    1. Heart to Heart with Holley – http://blog.dayspring.com/
    2. her posts are short but usually very poignant… always seems so timely for my heart.
    3. same reason i do.
