For a while now, I haven’t really known what’s going on in my brain. That’s a huge reason why I took a “selah” last week.
To know myself better, I’ve recently started “journaling” – but not like what typical people do when they journal. Been keeping a record of my inner-workings for about two months now, and it’s really helping. It’s helping me pay attention to what happens each day and how it affects me.
My atypical approach is a piece of software called “Chronories.” I stumbled into being the guinea-pig for this German software dev company to re-write a version that would work with my Mac. More on that later…
Back to the journal and how it’s revolutionized my self-awareness.
Among a few other features that help me keep track of my life, these are the seven questions I quickly ask myself at the end of the day. It usually takes about 5 minutes. So, for those of you who are on this Selah journey with me this week, it’s time to answer a few questions. Use the comments, or feel free to turn this into a blog post and link back here, so we can keep track.
- What was your HIGH today? (meaning, what was your highest most exciting experience today)
- Your LOW? (what was your toughest moment)
- What FOOD have you eaten?
- What are you PONDERING?
- Have you had any MOOD SWINGS through the day? (fellas, you can answer this one too)
- How did you SLEEP last night?
- Did you make any personal decisions (or RESOLUTIONS) today?

What was your HIGH today? (meaning, what was your highest most exciting experience today)
Your LOW? (what was your toughest moment)
Felt very lonely today … wanted to be cuddled
What FOOD have you eaten?
I had rice and peas, fish and veggies for lunch, and rice and chicken with baked beans for dinner.
What are you PONDERING?
Doing stuff for myself… feel it’s time to be on my own. Not very comfortable at my parents’ house at the moment – they make me feel like a tenant.
Have you had any MOOD SWINGS through the day? (fellas, you can answer this one too)
Yeah … was REALLY depressed today, but swung into an ok mood coz I was so busy today I didn’t have time to be moody…. was happy with my boys.
How did you SLEEP last night?
Pretty well… wanted to throw the alarm out the window when it woke me up at 5 this morning..
.
Did you make any personal decisions (or RESOLUTIONS) today?
Along with my pondering. I decided that I want my own place and I’m going to look for a new job.
Wanting to throw the alarm out sounds like REAL good sleep to me! haha
You make some very good points for self-growth here.
One of the TOP things I encourage people to do is to know themselves better: their purpose, goals, values, passions, strengths and beliefs. Because I have seen how this self knowledge can improve our lives on so many levels.
The thing I emphasize the most these days is asking yourself very powerful questions, which trigger big revelations about yourself and your life. It is an underused tool.
Cheers,
Eduard

I did something like this back before I went on medication after I had Owen. It was to determine whether or not I was struggling with PPD. The results were amazing….. I was completely amazed that there was a definate rythym going on in my life and it was interconnected. I’ve thought about doing it again lately b/c life is spiraling (more good than bad, still stressful) and I need a way to focus on it all.
Love that you posted this! So many can benefit from it!
I’m seeing a rhythm as well…
I knew I spelled rhythm wrong. dangit.
What was your HIGH today (so far)? (meaning, what was your highest most exciting experience today): I accidently bought tickets for the wrong date to the circus. It was fixed and I have the right date!! Hooray!!
Your LOW? (what was your toughest moment) someone telling me they didn’t “get” the class i taught today.
What FOOD have you eaten? yogurt, PB&J sandwich, carrots, and doritos
What are you PONDERING? should i walk on my lunch break or not?
Have you had any MOOD SWINGS through the day? (fellas, you can answer this one too) not yet…
How did you SLEEP last night? pretty good
Did you make any personal decisions (or RESOLUTIONS) today? not yet, but it’s still early..
That low – ouch… But did you ask them if they were actually awake?
What was your HIGH today? (meaning, what was your highest most exciting experience today)
smelling the clean laundry. seriously.
Your LOW? (what was your toughest moment)
hmmm. not feeling well.
What FOOD have you eaten?
protein and veggies.
What are you PONDERING?
future. big decisions. transitions. family.
Have you had any MOOD SWINGS through the day? (fellas, you can answer this one too)
nope. too sick. a mood swing would require extra energy. i’ll save my crazy days for next week =D
How did you SLEEP last night?

Did you make any personal decisions (or RESOLUTIONS) today?
