1) Handshake, Hug, High-five
2) Sweet Tea, Vitamin Water, Tang
3) Watermelon, Iceberg Lettuce, Dried Apricots
4) Reuben, Monte Cristo, Grilled Cheese
5) Alaska, Hawaii, Montana
1) Handshake, Hug, High-five

3) Watermelon, Iceberg Lettuce, Dried Apricots

As I grab a Ruben sandwich and head for my gate to board my plane for Alaska, mama and I have one more hug as I depart for my fishing trip. On the plane they offer me several drinks, I select the Vitamin Water. After two hours in flight I dig out the dried Apricots for a snack – I had snuck them on board in my overnight bag – heh heh !! Now for a nap, 6 more hours of flight to go – oh look, we just flew over Hawaii!! WHAT!! I am on the wrong flight!!
Well done, Papa. Well done!
1. Handshake with men. Ladies are a very uncomfortable sitch for me. I regard it as inappropriate for a man to “offer his hand” to a lady, and yet it feels “too forward” when a lady insists on offering her hand to me. (It can also feel really fundamentalist….) I always attempt to verbally “engage” ladies and avoid the contact issue altogether.
2. Sweet Tea. No question.
3. Watermelon all the way.
4. Grilled Cheese. I’m not opposed to foods with foreign names, but they are not at all my favorite things…
5. Love ‘em all. I would pick Alaska first if I were a little more of a real man. I would love Montana sometimes. Hawaii would be the “easiest” life, I think.
Sad to say, but if I ever met you, I’d feel compelled to give you more than just a “hey nice to meet you” with a wave because I feel like I already know you… But, I’m not a fan of the side-hug with “unmet” men, so I’d probably try to shake your hand for some sort of physical greeting. dangit…
(Note to self: Don’t do it.)
We can shake, don’t fret
It’s weird how something I READ twenty years ago still aggravates me like this. Rather stupid of me. I even do hugs, but usually with cousins or older ladies.
And just like that, I’ve already made you uncomfortable in the event that we ever actually do meet, and that’s just terribly unfortunate, ’cause I’m really pretty cool with just about any type of “Hello”. Bowing or curtsying might feel really strange.
Meeting blog peeps for the first time face to face has that aura of “Hey I know more about you than most of your day to day peeps” with that strangeness of “wow you look a little different than I thought” and “your voice sounds funny”.
I really would like to visit St. Simons and meet you and Fred someday, but hey, I can’t afford to drive to the next county, most of the time!
(Note to self: Stop being so weird.)
Lucky for you, a significant fraction of my life is spent interacting with a much more old-school way of doing things. Culture shifts VERY slowly in southern/rural areas, so I have to remember that when I meet other gentlemen around these parts.
I’ll just say you’re a southern gentleman.
1. high five. but hugs with those close to me =)
2. sweet tea!!
3. watermelon. mmmm, tasty.
4. grilled cheese with tomato soup. cut into 4 little squares.
5. ohhhh that’s a hard one. i haven’t been to any of them and they all have mountains and water which makes me happy. alaska in the summer though. yeah i’d be up for any and right now would be great…i could use a little getaway…
Pretty sure Alaska in the summer is colder than Georgia in the winter. And, well, Georgia is as cold as I like to be.
Yes, my 3 winters/springs/falls in Boston were quite difficult.
1) Handshake leading into Hug, depending how well I get to know you. Still fighting remnants of that stiff British reserve in me
High-five, no way. No, no, no. It’s all a bit too “American” (sorry!) and totally unnatural for the likes of me. Our previous church tried to introduce it as a method of greeting, but I just couldn’t do it and remain true to myself…lol!
2) Well, as the media has been full of negative Vitamin Water press here, I’ll go for Sweet Tea. Because I love me some tea. Tang? Yuck. Good for coating cookies though.
3) Iceberg Lettuce is a bit of a non-event for me. I love Watermelon, but now we’re into Autumn here, I’ll have to say Dried Apricots. In a Moroccan tagine. Yum.
4) Grilled Cheese ALL. THE. WAY. Especially how David makes it, it’s legendary. I’d accept a Reuben if it was from Katz’s Deli in NYC. We’re such shameless tourists.
5) I’m not much of a beach bum, so probably not Hawaii. Montana looks stunning. Alaska in the summer…..yes, I could go for that. If I had to choose…..Montana. Totally the kind of landscape I love.
“non-event” hahaha! PERFECT word for it!
What kind of cookies do you coat Tang in?
And how did I miss that aside???
I had a recipe for lemon cookies. The last step was mixing tang with icing sugar & rolling them in it. To quote David, “they were yuuuumm!”.
And I believe this is the recipe! http://thelunacafe.com/decidedly-lemon-teacakes/
OK so I may have lost something in translation! Tang in Australia is the equivalent to Kool-Aid powder. Now I understand why you’re all surprised and nonplussed
yeah – tang here is like kool-aid powder as well… and I’ve never heard of coating cookies with it! Will check that recipe for all its yummy goodness!
1) I am a hugger! Love me some hugs…except when it’s akward. Okay, maybe I just love hugs from my adorable husband. I will say handshake. That’s my final answer
2) Sweet tea, but only GOOD southern sweet tea. I live in Texas, enough said.
3) Watermelon.
4) Monte Cristo…mmmm…I used to love them from Bennigans, but that plaace closed down…so I haven’t had one in a while!
5) Alaska and then, on my way home, a week or so in Hawaii to thaw out! As long as that darling husband I mentioned earlier is with me…I will go anywhere!
Hey Britt!! According to my fuzzy memory, you may be new around these parts.
Glad you stopped by. And, yes, I share your love for Bennigans MC’s. Shame. I ordered a MC at a local place recently, and *I shudder to say* it was not fried. What a major let down.
hug, vitamin water, dried apricots, monte cristo, Hawaii, these are a few of my favorite things
You’re about 6 weeks early on that last phrase there, sir. Must be planning the Christmas service already!
1) Hug
2) Sweet Tea
3) Watermelon
4) Grilled Cheese
5) Hawaii
*grilled Cheesus* You strike me as a Glee fan…
1) Handshake, Hug if I’m comfortable with you.
2) Sweet Tea on a fun day Tang
3) Watermelon
4) Grilled Cheese
5) Though I’d like to spend some time on the beach – Hawaii seems so cliche to me. I’ll say Montana with close heart friends, late nights, coffee, and conversation.
that should be Sweet tea. And on a fun day Tang.
I’m a huge fan of coffee & conversation. Kinda. I mean, I don’t drink much coffee – I prefer teas and mochas and wines. mmmmm
You can drink what ever you want. We’ll have it all.
Big yay
1) High-five (least amount of contact)
2) Vitamin Water (if it can be sugar free)
3) Watermelon
4) Monte Cristo
5) Hawaii
“least amount of contact” That surprised me.
1. Hug
2. Sweet Tea
3. None of the above
4. Reuben
5. Hawaii
Um…. I don’t remember “none of the above” being on any list for this little game, sir.
My first reaction to this was I should write a story based on the answers (it reminded me of assignments given by an english professor I had in college), but my brain is not fully engaged yet this morning. So here are the easy answers.
1 – hugs
2 – sweet tea (as long as it’s made with sugar & real tea, none of the fake stuff please) guess living in the south for 14 years will do that.
3 – dried apricots, reminds me of my childhood
4 – it’s a tie between a Rueben and grilled cheese – it depends on who makes it. I can be pretty finicky sometimes.
5 – Drove through Montana this summer – it was beautiful and I’d like to go back for a visit. But I think now I would have to vote for Hawaii.
Papa did that above… He’s an early riser.
hug
vitamin water
watermelon
gross
montana
Gross??? That wasn’t an option!
1. Hug
2. Vitamin Water
3. Watermelon
4. Reuben (I made a mean one when I worked at a deli in HS)
5. Hawaii
Drew kinda likes Reubens… Me? not so much.
Love me some hugs….
But nothing beats my Caribbean breezes!
Tie btw sweet tea and Tang… no… I think sweet tea would win out….
Iceberg lettuce
I’d have to go for a grilled cheese coz I don’t know what the others are
And as for places to visit – maybe Alaska – I have a good friend that wants to go there, maybe I’d go for the trip
Lettuce? Really??
I can’t stand watermelons and can’t remember tasting apricots ever, so… as u said to someone else, “none of the above” wasn’t on the list
Wow. I think you’re the first person I’ve ever met who’s not a fan of watermelons… I don’t even know what to do with that!
1) I no doubt am a hugger…it’s the curse of having a grandmother who oozed southern hospitality raise you. Not normally strangers, but always friends.
2)Sweet tea…I don’t drink it often, but it’s always in my house. I thank my Granny for that also.
3)Watermelon, I’m not a fan of the way iceberg lettuce is portrayed as a health food when it has almost no nutritional value. Shame on it.
4)Grilled cheese, more specifically a toasted cheese & veggie bacon…yum!
5)Montana if it’s not frigid, and I’m somewhere I can hike without being eaten or attacked by an animal, especially bears…something tells me that’d ruin the trip. I’d like to go to Hawaii, but not some tourist spot.
“shame on it” hahahaha. SO many opinions about Iceberg lettuce today. wow
1) Handshake, Hug, High-five: Depends on the person I am giving or receiving from the possible hug from. Ok, but for the most part I am a hugger.
2) Sweet Tea, Vitamin Water, Tang: Ooooo, sweet tea!!
3) Watermelon, Iceberg Lettuce, Dried Apricots: watermelon!!!
4) Reuben, Monte Cristo, Grilled Cheese: Hmmmm, grilled cheese with grilled onions, thinly sliced ham, tomatoes, and pickles.
5) Alaska, Hawaii, Montana: Hawaii!!! I live in the Northwest and it has rained for the just about the past gzillion days straight (ok not really but it seems that way!) and will continue to rain until March or April. I don’t mind the rain so much (I like the greenness that rain brings)but a break would be nice at some point
Ok, now, I must admit that your version of grilled cheese sounds incredible, but where I come from that’s not at all a grilled cheese. Sounds more like a ham & cheese melt, Jessica. You might have to pick again.
alright, alright… i’ll pick a reuben, since i don’t know what a monte cristo is, other than a book by alexandre dumas and a movie with james caviezel.
The MC is brilliantly delicious…. It’s a ham & cheese & raspberry jam sandwich. and, if done right, will be deep fried.
Yes. Our arteries can only afford 1 per year.
1) Hug
2) Vitamin Water
3) Watermelon
4) Reuben
5) Hawaii
did i pass?
Only if you take me with you to Hawaii.
1) HugS
2) coffee! (okay, I’ll comply…1/2 sweet tea, 1/2 unsweetened tea, what can I say? I’m a Northerner.)
3) Watermelon
4) Reuben
5) Alaska, Hawaii, Montana {ALL 3, please!}
Capital S please!!!
And, um, no half tea. no no no…
1) Hug
2) Sweet Tea: I’m from the South, ya’ll.
3) Iceberg Lettuce: Not much of a fruit eater.
4) Grilled Cheese: Because I can share it with my girls.
5) Hawaii: Only state I’ve never been to. Lived in AK and didn’t like it….brrrr
You’ve been in every state but Hawaii? wow. That’s a lotta traveling.
Yeah, I traveled in a singing group in college for four years, and made it to every state in the lower 48 at least once. We lived in AK for 3 years right after graduation, so now we’re planning Hawaii for our 20th anniversary .
Dude. That is awesome!
Coming out of stalking for a survey at midnight…
1) Must be some kind of contact. I’m not one for a wave or nod… usually it’s a hug. With guys, it depends on how well I know them.
2) Definitely sweet tea, and I’m from the Northwest!
3) Watermelon.
4) Grilled Cheese. I like mind grilled on both sides.
5) Montana.. I went to Montana a couple summers ago and absolutely loved it! I would love a chance to go back.
HEY!
Welcome to the fold, HR! Tell me more – where did you come from (besides “stalking” and “the northwest”)…
Actually, with google as my bff,
I found you… Hi!
Hi! Sorry, I’m usually pretty good at leaving my link, but I must have forgotten.
For future reference, I blog over at The Art of Losing… http://hannahborcherdt.wordpress.com/
Thanks Hannah!
1. high five (I am an awkward huger)
2. Tang
3. watermelon cause i love trying to see how far I can spit the seeds
4. Grilled Cheese
5. Alaska. I hear it is really pretty there and I have already been to hawaii
Ah yes, I think we should have a global seed spitting contest next summer. Hmmmm…. Need to put that on my calendar!!
Hope you will play!!
1. Hugs!!
2. Sweet tea. It was always in the fridge growing up. Still my fave!
3. Watermelon.
4. Monte Cristo. (Not gonna lie, I had to google it), but I love trying new foods.
5. Hawaii. I’d like to go to all 3 places eventually… I also love to travel.
The beautiful Courtney Foster in the house! Hugs to you.
Aww, thank you. Hugs back
1) Handshake, Hug, High-five
hug. full frontal.
2) Sweet Tea, Vitamin Water, Tang
plain water. can i pick that?
3) Watermelon, Iceberg Lettuce, Dried Apricots
iceberg lettuce
4) Reuben, Monte Cristo, Grilled Cheese
whats a monte cristo?
5) Alaska, Hawaii, Montana
hawaii.
:eyeroll: you would have to use the phrase “full frontal” wouldn’t you?
(and, no, plain water wasn’t an option… please try again)
1. Depending on their hygiene, the hug.
2. Vitamin Water, unless it’s with a meal, then, sweet tea, unless it’s made with artificial sweetener, then, just water. Plain water. With ice. (Which, in this country, IS an option.)
3. The fruits.
4. Hamburger.
5. The first letter of these states spells HAM.
mmmmm ham.
I’m hungry.
1) Hugs are my fave.
2) Sweet Tea, bc I have a sweet tooth.
3) Watermelon
4) Grilled Cheese (i’ve never had the other 2…)
5) Alaska, only because I want to see the Aurora Borealis.
