Our first Christmas as a married couple was nothing short of out-of-control. Neither of us could stand to be away from our families, so we decided to do all of it. And we HAD to start by waking up in OUR OWN home, because – after all – it was OUR “first” Christmas.
Short story = we were in 5 different homes, 4 different towns, in TWO different states. All in a 16 hour period.
We spent approximately 7 (of those 16 hours) driving 300+ miles. (Note the order of A, B, C, D in the illustration provided, please.)
We ate “Christmas Dinner” THREE different times. ANDIDONTEVENLIKETURKEY
We will NEVER EVER EVER do that again.
Merry Christmas…
Post idea: Kat, from a long time ago!

Aaron and I had a christmas that I vowed to never repeat. It was the first christmas we lived away from both families. We spent a week with my family and a week with his. Family OVERLOAD.
merry christmas mandy!!
Yeah. I mean, I think you’re family is awesome and his is fairly entertaining (from what I can remember) but TWO weeks of nothing-but-family? I don’t think I could handle it either. Merry Christmas to you too Kathy!
You guys are crazy. (Or were.)
WERE. Emphasis on WERE!
Merry Christmas Mandy!
Merry Christmas to you and your whole wild family, Toby!!!

Oops!
SOOO FUNNY!!!
Our first Christmas Jake was working, and I was at home crying and missing my family. I was barely 20 years old, it was my first Christmas away from home, and when I talked to all of them on the phone while I sat alone in my house on Christmas Eve with my dog, I just cried and cried. It was awful. But Jake got home at 6 Christmas morning, we went back to bed (b/c I stayed up all night too) and then got up later and opened presents. Interesting first Christmas….
When we lived at home for four years, our first one was awful. We just had Dylan and we went to 5 different houses in one day with a baby….. NOT the greatest thing ever. LOL We quickly amended that and spread Christmas out over 2 days with our families.
And now…. while we will always miss our families, we love that we get a relaxed holiday where we don’t have to travel ANYWHERE.
OUCH! Girl. I think I would’ve stayed home & cried as well. That stunk… And then to travel all over with a baby. LOL!! Lessons learned, right?
Merry Christmas Mandy!
Our first Christmas we were living on Long Island while Casey was in the Coast Guard. We were 3000 miles from home, we didn’t really know anyone, and we ate Christmas dinner at the CG station’s galley. As boring as it may sound, it was actually a relaxing and fun Christmas.
I’m actually looking forward to next Christmas, in hopes my parents will come up and spend a couple weeks with us during the holidays.
Merry Christmas Jessica.
I can see how chill that Christmas would’ve been. Probably a lot like some of mine & Drew’s first holidays in Boston when we didn’t know anyone. I kinda like the idea of eating out at Christmas time, it sure beats spending all day in the kitchen. I’d rather just pay someone to feed me on those days!
even better, the meal was free that year!
Yay!
Chase has worked every Christmas or Christmas Eve since we’ve been together(typical fire life). This is the first one he’s been off both days, and it’s much easier to get things done for sure. However, it’s bittersweet because for the past 3 years, my mom has come Dec 23 and stayed to wake up with the kids on Christmas morning…I know she’ll be here on spirit, but I get choked up thinking of walking in here without her in the morning. A different “first” this year, but I know she’s having the best Christmas ever:) Merry Christmas to you & Drew, so grateful for your friendship
Every Christmas(eve)? wow that’s rough… But I’m so thankful he’s been home this weekend, especially with you missing your mom. It’s gotta be a tough holiday week for you. But you looked beautiful at church Friday.
Now that you have your own home you can let everyone else experience the joy of traveling to yours. Invite all your friends and family so you can experience the joy of cooking for 20 or 30 people.
Wishing you and your family a very joyous Christmas.
I wish. But it’s not that easy… yet.
Everyone else can pull the “kids at home for Christmas” card since they’re all parents. One day we’ll be able to do the same!
Merry Christmas
you too!!!
merry christmas, mandy-pants.
love you so much. you, in my life = a very, very good gift.
Thanks Tam. Merry Christmas.
Oh my. Christmas should be a season. But not a whole season to prepare for one day. A season to enjoy Christmas. We spread out Christmas over 2 or three days. One day at my in-laws place and a day or two at home with ‘just’ me, my wife, and our 5 kids. I could go on but maybe you’ve learned your lesson.
