Because I missed Thursday’s post, and that was just lame of me:
1) Eminem, Beyonce, Taylor Swift
2) Summer, Fall, Winter
3) Jeep, VW Beetle, SUV
4) Papa John’s, Little Caesar’s, Domino’s
5) NYC, LA, ATL

She weaves the words that wrap me in a deep endangered sadness,
blanketing the very thoughts that my soul songs are wrapped in.
There’s nothing here but yesterdays. Those wonderments are fading
but dreams still dream and hands still reach for faith and hope, peacemaking.
There will be a thousand stories.
There will be a thousand glories.
There will be something far beyond this world we’re living in.
Without this mass of call and craft behind creative bend
that pounds my heart and pulls me in and pushes pen again
these mortal words–these secrets sweet–these prayers that go unanswered
stay locked beneath a weave of words, held tight and held unransomed.
There will be unending hope and
there will be soul locks that open.
There will be a rush for more and more and breath that goes unbroken.
There will be a line and letter.
There will be a faith unfettered.
There will be a song in every word and rhyme and beat and measure.
The fellas gave me permission to let the cat out of the bag. So here it is. And it went something like this:
Me: “Do you want to get more involved in playing at church on Sundays?”
Jay: “Well… Actually, what I really want to do is start a band.”
Me: “Really…(insert wheels turning)…? Well… What kind of band…?”
Then he used words like MuteMath and Radiohead and a lot of other bands that I’ve never really heard of. And, I guess judging by the look on my face, he said: “Are you interested?” At that point, the voice of my therapist came rushing back, tactfully encouraging me to get over my fear of performance.
Somewhere in the middle Jay Sellers and I brought Russ Hutto in the mix. Y’all remember Russ the rapper, right? Yes. THAT Russ!
So, two months later, we are a nameless band that could be described as Jennifer Knapp and Coldplay’s lovechild. With The Fray and Alanis Morissette and OneRepublic hanging off the family tree. This is a completely new songwriting/songbuilding experience for me, having an entire band to put meat on the skeletons of what I’m writing–and they keep saying I write like “The Hush Sound” but I have no idea what that means. Needless to say, new songs have taken an interesting turn in the past two months, writing for The Band. And I like it. Oh y’all… I so-very-much like it.
BUT, here’s the thing: we need a name. And there are some seriously creative people among this blogging community. So, bring it. What’s a good band name for a vibey rock chick-singer band?
1) the sound of other people chewing
2) people who drive below the speed limit
3) audible breathing
