I decided to go analog the other day, to jar my brain and get the juices flowing. No computer. No couch. No Masterwriter. Just floor & pen & paper & guitar & iPhone recorder. The effects, 3 hours later, were pleasantly surprising:

Whole point of this post? If you’re in a creative funk, try something drastically different… Change forces us to adjust/react/realign. And that takes creativity. Your brain, by force of change, will immediately jump into creative mode. Don’t believe me? Try it.

Great way to illustrate it, Mandy!
Thanks Bobby!
Looks like there was coffee involved. That’s really what matters, you know.
ah huh…. But sometimes I need a little more help!
I love my laptop because I type much more quickly than I write by hand. However, there are times when I just grab a notebook and pencil anyway and I am often far more productive. So, I agree.
I’m the same way. GOSH I’m the same way… Maybe that’s why those 3 hours flew by so fast for me.
But, you know, I have a “chrome” extension called “concentrate” and *when I use it* it helps a lot!
yep, i changed it all up today, too — when writing my blog post. i didn’t feel like finishing anything i’d already started. and i didn’t have any particular new ideas to write about. so i wrote the “punchline” of my blog post before anything else.
Ha! Awesome! So you know exactly where you’re heading for the rest of it.
Okay.
And I’ll let you know the results — if there are results…
But see…? If you expect no results, you’ll get no results. You will have already talked yourself out of it.
I sat down in front of my sewing machine for the first time in months the other day and during that time had oodles of ideas for blog posts and other creative projects come to mind. It’s amazing what getting outside of the norm will do to spark creativity in another area.
Wow… That really is neat. I think I need to make another collage or something. hmmmm You’re giving me ideas!
That is great advice Mandy.
If our brain can’t go any further in one direction, change direction.
I think when we write with a pencil, instead of typing, it can force us to focus more on each word. It can slow down our thought process. That is my biggest problem when I am trying to be creative, the ability to stay focused. I have a very short attention span.
I also have a very very short attention span… I think the internet is largely responsible for that, actually.
Oh, but there were results. Pretty good ones, too. I just lost the notepad I had put my words upon…Grr!
But that’s the best part about having a Genius — I can’t talk Him out of anything.
Ever.
Found some notes. Reconstructing the profound.
Most of the rest I remembered — fortunately.
GREAT!!!! I’m so glad.
