1) Things that inspire me: creativity in others, candles (!!), coffee, pre-dawn rituals, time to sit and think, sunlight on skin, quotes that jump off the page and slap me in the soul, honesty, goals.
2) Are you all out of inspiration? I came across an article last week that floored me. It’s a psychological look at inspiration (here, since my little linky button isn’t working right now and I don’t know why and it’s too early in the morning for me to figure it out: http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2011/11/why_inspiration_matters.html). Ok. Yes. It’s very much worth the clicking and reading. I had to read it three times to grasp what it was saying, but I needed to get it in my brain.
3) The way Ann Voskamp paints a word-picture and turns a sentence leaves me dizzy. In the best way. And I will read certain passages over and over and over again dissecting the way she stitched her words together.
4) What inspires you? How can you add more of those elements to your life?
This is not easy – I don’t want to sound trite or shallow – put to me its really quite basic. My studying/reading Gods word. Asking Him to give me direction. For example, this morning read 4 chapters in 1 kings about Solomon, who had the favor of God until he turned from him. To me that is a BIg warning to us all.
Mama is a big inspiration to me. Her complete faithfulness to God. Her prayer life is phenomenal. I am reading more as well. Not as much as mama, but better. I read books that I want to challenge my Christian growth and make me a better husband/father. I just read Radical by David Platt – WOW – that has rattled me.
And your blog Mandy, and others as well. THese make me search my own being – todays is a good example.
Papa
Papa: It doesn’t sound trite at all–it sounds very genuine and heartfelt. I love the love story you and mama share. It’s inspiring!
Our love story is very unique – it is a topic of conversation even 47 years later!
Nature inspires me, meaningful words well written, and the breath of god/goddess.
Love your answer, Brenda. For so many reasons. Thank you for sharing them here.
How clever people are – watching a farmer combine a field is inspiring. They have solved a problem for the good of all, becoming more efficient but working the soil in a basic way. Seeing a bench completely made from scrap tools inspires me. It sounds hokey, but I love seeing the end result of man’s ingenuity/creativity. Thank you for making me think today!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
reading/hearing about a successful journey through what seems to be the impossible
Oh yeah. That’s a great one Jessica!
I am a serial dreamer! so dreams always inspire me. I am currently writing a book (or at least trying to!:p) and my main sources of inspiration are real life and dreams!
Really liked the article that you shared!
