The night I fell in love.

I fell in love in the midst of a food fight.

It’s embarrassingly true.

Yes, it involved Drew (for those of you who were wondering). And a beach. And lots of people with lots of really really gross food. Why? We were in youth ministry.

And here comes the mushy part:

He whisked me into the water, threw me in the waves. And then I kinda just stumbled and stuttered there for a minute. It started raining. Lots of rain. The kind of rain that stings. And it pattered and pattered and bounced off the ocean waves.  And he told me I was beautiful. And he gave me his hand and we walked out of the water.

That was it. I knew.

And I still remember that night like it was yesterday.

Do you remember the night you fell in love?

These are a few of my favorite things…

Summer has finally settled on the land of New England. Complete with lemonade stands, hot muggy mornings, and bugs. Everywhere.

As most of you know, summer is my FAVORITE season of the year. Even though it lasts for just a few weeks in New England, I’ve managed to enjoy all of my favorite things about summertime already:

  • flip flops
  • beach trips
  • watermelon (salted, of course!)
  • ice-cold tea
  • thunderstorms
  • cucumber slices swimming in vinegar water
  • sunglasses
  • salads
  • air conditioning
  • late evening strolls
  • cookouts

What are some of your summer favorites?

ohio feet in new england water

i took the girls to my favorite beach – well, favorite of Massachusetts! it’s a pebble beach and i’m sure some of you have seen pictures of it in times past on my blog.

Alece and i knew what to expect, but this was QUITE the experience since Cathi’s Ohio feet have never touched New England water. Cathi wanted to take home a few souvenirs of the trip to the beach, and this is what came of it:

babies everywhere

i loved watching new life happen on the beach.

for about 2 weeks of early summertime, i could run with the baby dolphins… the dolphin families would come out of the sound at around 7:20 am, and if i got out there early enough, i could find them. the big fins, then the little fins, then splashing, then the little fins again.

they were right there. right there in the shallows of the breakers. and they were breathtaking.

one crisp autumn morning i wandered into the most amazing sight. baby sea turtles. lots of them. the tired ones. covered in sand. fatigued.

they’d been misled by the lights from beach homes, and followed their glow into the sand dunes. once the sun broke over the ocean, they turned and headed for the waves. but the night was long for those little ones.

and the little tracks that covered the sand. the tracks. hundreds – thousands of tracks.

they babies were as small as the palm of your hand.
i picked one up.
carried him to the water.
watched him clumsily make his way into the washing of the waves.

what fascinates you about new life?
