- Practice slowing.
- Consider, and then reconsider, and then take into further consideration the fact that the Bible actually says “No one has ever seen God…”
- Move past page 12 in Voskamp’s “One Thousand Gifts.”
- Pay attention, even when I’d rather look away.
- Write more down.

How do you take in scripture?
I’m a horror board game character. No. REALLY.
I found another one the other day. (Long story. And no, googling myself is not a favorite pastime of mine.)
Apparently I’m a character in the Arkham Horror Board game. I can’t even wrap my mind around anyone would want to make me into a board game character. Namely, an investigator. Yes I ask a lot of questions, but there’s more to Mandy that makes this really strange:
- She works with university professors: True. In college I was a T.A. and also staff in the Sociology/Anthropology office.
- She has a sanity level of 5: um… nobody who’s spent any time reading this blog will argue my degree of sanity is much higher than that.
- Stamina level of 5: I concur, Doctor. I often fall down when doing YogaX.
- Her home? The Library: Unfortunately, I’ve worked in two different libraries in my lifetime. And felt that I spent more time there than I wanted. So, big yes on this one.
- Fixed Possessions? $6: Big fat honking YES on this one. If it wasn’t for my man, I’d be a textbook starving artist.
- Random Possessions? 1 skill: True as well. Creativity. Period.
- “While reading an old book of prophecies:” You mean the Bible??
- “Mandy has decided to see if she can defy fate:” There’s no better description of me…
I don’t even know how to initiate a commenting discussion on this one. So, there ya go. Comment away (and don’t forget to check our new the “subscribe to replies” button!)
I just know that last book has been written.
- The Bible – because it takes a LONG time to read the whole thing – and it’s more of a compilation work than one long story (although my husband might differ with me on that last point haha)…
- Francine River’s “Redeeming Love” – it’s mah fave.
- A blank notebook (it’s a book!) so I can write songs & stuff.
- The Telephone Book. Seems useful, if only for fires & toilet paper & such.
- “How To Survive on a Deserted Island” – I’m sure that book exists. And I’d definitely want it with me.
You’re stuck on a deserted island. You get to have 5 books with you. What are they?
P.S. I have a good bad habit of stealing post ideas from Hannah.
P.P.S. after the first ps: That last book DOES exist: here
P.P.P.S. Can I substitute my MacBook for #2, since it actually IS my favorite “book?” [grin]
Reason to Sing
I read this passage a while ago and it really struck me. Like there’s something alive inside these words.
A reason to hope. A reason to sing.
Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O Israel!
Rejoice and exult with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!The LORD has taken away the judgments against you;
he has cleared away your enemies.
The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst;
you shall never again fear evil.On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
“Fear not, O Zion;
let not your hands grow weak.The LORD your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival,
so that you will no longer suffer reproach.Behold, at that time I will deal
with all your oppressors.
And I will save the lame
and gather the outcast,
and I will change their shame into praise
and renown in all the earth.At that time I will bring you in,
at the time when I gather you together;
for I will make you renowned and praised
among all the peoples of the earth,
when I restore your fortunes
before your eyes,” says the LORD.~Zephaniah 3:14-20
