Take your pick

I recently told Drew “People are my books.” I think a better way to say it would’ve been “blogs are my books” – I used to be great at keeping up with other blogs, then I got all busy with moving and life and moving. Now things are settling down & I’m returning to some blog reading – namely during the weekend. And only some. BUT, maybe there’s time and room for a few more. So, I thought it’d be fun to share our favorite blogs here. And check ‘em out this weekend.

So here’s the way this’ll go down:

1) the name of the blog, with link.

2) why you like reading it

3) why you think Mandy will like reading it

And we’ll go from there. Mkay?

The best thing I can say is, “I do not want to finish this book.”

“My test of a good novel is dreading to begin the last chapter.” ~Thomas Helm

I read this quote on a friend’s blog recently, and immediately went through all the books in my head that fit this category (granted, there aren’t many, because I’m not a huge reader):

The Help

Redeeming Love

Julie & Julia

What would you add to the list?

he reads to me…

that’s what my man does. he reads to me. just because he wants to… we snuggle on the couch or i curl up beside him under the covers and he reads to me.

we just started with Tom Sawyer. it makes me laugh, how he does all the voices. and he’s a master at mimicking the old-timey southern accent, even though i’m the “ree-uhl thang” when it comes to “suthurn” accents!

since we both have such different personalities and interests, we’ve struggled to find ways to “play” together. we’ve tried hiking (but i’m a wimp). we’ve tried the beach (but he doesn’t live for a tan). we’ve talked about trying camping (but, well, i always seem to find an excuse not to go! last time it was bears, and that’s a legitimate concern in my eyes – not just some silly excuse). we’ve tried running together (i can’t seem to get my knees/shins to endure more than 1/2 mile). we never tried doing music together (but, as i said yesterday, he plays a mean nose flute)! we briefly talked about concerts (but he’d rather have his eyelashes plucked out).

anyway, you get the picture… the only remaining options were watching movies and eating out, one rules out conversation and the other rules out our savings!

but, since we were married 4 1/2 years ago, we’ve been determined to find a way to play… our pre-marital counselor told us that healthy marriages have shared recreational experiences – they play together. and we’ve never forgotten it. we trust this man, we think he’s right, and we wanna stay together…

so, he loves to read and i love to laugh, “wa-la!” = he reads funny stuff to me. it works for us and works for our marriage!

how do the two of you play together – enjoy each others company?

WHATEVER WEDNESDAY 9.25.07

235696308_d70e60c0cf.jpgi’ve been thinking alot about Tam‘s closing question last week: What would you do and how would you feel if you couldn’t get on a computer for a month?

well, i’d be out of a job for sure! and i’d lose significant contact with friends, family, and those i minister to! but, how would i feel? i think, in some ways, i’d feel free – but in other ways i’d feel totally isolated….. i dunno if i wanna go without my computer.

but, i took her question ONE step further: what if i couldn’t blog (posting, commenting, AND using my trusty bloglines)? [gasp!]

i did the math… if i didn’t blog for 1 month, i’d have about 50 free hours each month. that’s two days.

two days.

that’s an entire weekend!!!

i’d probably write more songs. and then record them.

i’d also probably read a book or get outside before the chill stays.

and i’d probably most likely definitely spend more time with others and [can i admit this?] my bible…..

since i think this is a question worth considering, a torment worth undergoing, i thought i’d ask you too.

so, starter question: what would you do with your new-found free time if you couldn’t blog for ONE ENTIRE and LONG month [gasp again!]? (please include an estimate of how much time would be freed up!)
