These are a few of my favorite things…

Summer has finally settled on the land of New England. Complete with lemonade stands, hot muggy mornings, and bugs. Everywhere.

As most of you know, summer is my FAVORITE season of the year. Even though it lasts for just a few weeks in New England, I’ve managed to enjoy all of my favorite things about summertime already:

  • flip flops
  • beach trips
  • watermelon (salted, of course!)
  • ice-cold tea
  • thunderstorms
  • cucumber slices swimming in vinegar water
  • sunglasses
  • salads
  • air conditioning
  • late evening strolls
  • cookouts

What are some of your summer favorites?

Apples to Apples

Drew and I have been trying to get healthy this summer. Less caffeine. Less sugar (well, not the kissin’ kind). Less carbs. Less eating. More exercising.

I’m stocking up on salads and fruit.

I like fuji apples.

A lot.

I know some people might see them as a deviation from the norm, but I don’t care. I like fujis, no matter how weird you think I am. I thought they were weird, until I tried them. Sweet heaven. I left those bitter Granny Smiths behind, and I don’t regret it one bite (err, I mean, bit)!

What sort of apple person are you?

Life outside of DOing

On the way to the gym yesterday, I realized that there were a number of things in my life that I would’ve mentioned around here, were we not “DOing” anything! :)

  • Drew and I are taking the UK to a BBQ joint today. I’m oh-so-excited about hearing an international critique of authentic southern food, especially in a British accent! And ESPECIALLY after an authentically British meal of mashed potatoes, carrots, steamed broccoli and corn, and honey ham. I think they’ll like BBQ. (Hey JO!)
  • I’m wondering if Ike is gonna mess up my travel plans for next week… Leaving on Thursday – I’m heading inland.
  • I twit now. Yes. I ate my words. Sorry.
  • The in-laws have (safely) evacuated Houston. whew. I’ve survived a hurricane. You don’t wanna play chicken with a hurricane.
  • Amy MacDonald is my new favorite gym buddy. Here’s my favorite song:

So, anything interesting going on in your world right now?

foreign foods

is it litchi or lychee?

i’m not sure. but they’re native to China, but i think you can also get ‘em in Cali. and, well, i tried one:

the litchi/lychees came from caroline, who is friends with one of our students from China. yes. China ~ how cool is THAT?!? so, everybody say “thank you, Caroline” for sharing her litchi/lychees with me… and for making mandy look like she belongs on one of those distorted animal face greeting cards. (i’m sorry, y’all)

what’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?
