If you could be the opposite sex for a day…?

Yesterday :: 3:30pm EST

I’m driving down “the spur” (for all you locals), sipping my Chick-Fil-A peach milkshake (aka: Heaven With A Straw), while thinking VERY happy thoughts about how amazing the weather is right now (even though I spent a large chunk of my day doing something that I’m not crazy about, but this is a first since I started my job four months ago. More happy thoughts all around.).

Anywho, back to the drive. The radio happens to be on the local Country station, and the DJ is talking faster than I’m driving. And, even though I don’t like a lot of talk-talk-talk on the radio when there should be tune-tune-tune, it doesn’t ruin mood. My beautifully invincible mood.

The DJ prattles through future topics of conversation on their show, including the question: “if you could be the opposite sex for a day, what’s one thing you’d do?”

And that’s when it hit me, surpassing the euphoria of perfect weather and perfect shake:

This’d make one heck of a blog question.

So, I ask you, dear sunshiny readers, if you could be the opposite sex for a day, what would you do?

Do you want to know…?

Do you want to know that I’ve submersed myself in reading/learning/practicing songwriting over the past 4 months? That I’ve read three different books on songwriting and have subscribed to a half-dozen blogs by the pros in the field?

Do you want to know that my husband will be attending graduation this weekend, to receive a diploma for a degree that he finished 5 months ago, and is currently chipping away at a second degree that he won’t complete for another 6 months? So, this weekend, we’re celebrating something he did last year, and not in any way finding closure in the ritual because our lives aren’t really changing much right now…

Do you want to know where we’re going to go after seminary? (You do? Me too! I’ll tell ya when we figure it out.)

Do you want to know that I’ve never found flowers to be so beautiful as in the past few weeks, after having spent a winter with 3 months of snow on the ground?

Do you want to know that I’d give just about anything (within reason) to have Patty Griffin’s songwriting abilities?

What else do you want to know?

It’s 4:30

a lament on sleep lost. by mandy thompson

It’s 4:30
and that’s too early
to sing a sunshine song or three.

Spring is springing.
My ears are ringing
from your tormenting tune of tweets.

The day will come,
the night be done,
but not just yet, you winged freak.

To keep your feathers
I think you better
Shut your beak ’til sun you see.

who needs the internet…?

…when its warm and sunny outside????

my weekend in review:

friday – worked on my farmer’s tan while it was a GORGEOUS 70 degrees outside – we had a heatwave and picnic all in one day!! (that’s my friend sarah & her daughter out there with me – thanks to her son for snapping the photo – i had no idea 7 year olds could take such great pics!!!)

saturday – spent the day with my husband celebrating our 5 year anniversary (a week late but still great). this is my favorite beach off the coast of Massachusetts. i LOOOOOOVE looking around for tiny bits of sea-glass in the pebbles. its like therapy for my soul. and, yes, i’m wearing a jacket, people. don’t confuse “warm” with “hot”…. “warm” in New England means that you can stand to be outside for 2 hours without freezing to death.

so, what did y’all do this weekend?

photo: an easter snow bunny…

as requested, here’s my easter outfit photo! yes – i wore the mint sweater and brown slacks that y’all nearly unanimously agreed on – but THIS is a memory:

don’t you think that snow bunnies are MUCH “cooler” than the Easter Bunny?

i thought about editing and lightening the pic so you might actually be able to see me, but decided the pre-dawn feeling was more important.

sunrise service: 6:00 am – 6:30 am…

temperature: 25ish degrees

wind chill: deathly - note the windblown fur and scarf.

ground: FROZEN

photo taken: 6:30 am…

actual sunrise: 6:50 am…

yeah. we were too early for the sunrise, but way TOO cold to wait for it. OH WELL!!!
