MUSIC WITH A MISSION

Remember Russ? The crazy rapper who did the hip-hop song with me? He’s going to Honduras! Since he’s a friend of mine, good ol’ southern boy (if you don’t know what the phrase “good ol’ boy” means, I can explain), and amazing musician/worship leader, I want to help him… by helping you help him help them.

I’ll let him explain what’s going on:

July 6th – 13th, 2009 our team will be in the Central American nation of Honduras. Our destination will be the capital city of Tegucigalpa. We will be flying from Atlanta, Georgia.

I am involved heavily at my church in Music & Media. I’ll be hanging out with the band of the local church and learning about how they use music in worship and to impact their community there. I’ll also be sharing some original music (translated to spanish) as well. But I’m more excited about worshiping WITH these wonderful church leaders! And maybe having the opportunity to share what God is doing through me here in Valdosta.

If you would like to help ME (RussHutto.com) raise funds, I am giving away a copy of 10 of my songs from the last few years and 3 bonus wallpapers in a downloadable digital album. If you donate $15 dollars or more I’ll send you the link to the digital download. Since we’re using Paypal for ALL of our donations, I’ll just need you to send me a copy of your digital receipt (contact me from my contact page) and I’ll shoot you the link!

You can get more info HERE.

I ate too much. And then I ate some more. I had no intentions of gorging myself on Thanksgiving leftovers today, seein’ as how I don’t like the whole Thanksgiving spread. But when my granny makes chocolate chip cookies, and my mama turns the leftover turkey into soup, well… accidents happen!

Would I be brave enough to admit that I have officially unbuttoned the top button of my jeans? Nope. Not gonna do that.

Just finished playing Settlers of Catan with my bro & his wife & my mom. Lee (my bro) is one of my favorite people. We laugh and laugh and laugh together. Usually it involves quick jokes that nobody else hears. Or “your mama” jokes, which can be beyond absurd among siblings.

I miss Drew. He’s not here. He’s in Boston. Well-fed. And studying. This is the first Holiday we’ve spent apart, and it is a strange experience. I called him last night and we talked for an hour. Two minutes into the conversation, he smiled (you know, the type of smile that you can hear over the phone) and said, “That southern accent is back and I love it.” I didn’t know he loved my accent. I think I’ll try to keep it this time.

“Home” is fast becoming a complicated word in my life. Four days ago, I told people I was about to go home. Now, I’m telling people I go home on Sunday. Home. I think I have a lot of homes. I think I like that.

Tomorrow I will meet the boyfriend. I’m really looking forward to that. I’m more excited about meeting him than I am about eating at Cracker Barrel. I know. Crazy, isn’t it?

Ok. Your turn. What’s going on in your life? Write. Now.

36 hours

This is some of what it’s like to come home:

Tuesday:
10:30 am – Chick-Fil-A in the Atl airport. Yes. This is home.
12:07 pm – Walk by the local news anchorwoman in the Savannah airport, doing a piece on how busy the SAV airport is during the Thanksgiving Holiday season. BUSY? WHERE?? Thinking she should go to the BOS airport – she’d run screaming.
12:35 pm – Wait for my dad outside the airport. Watch 3 drivers stop traffic unnecessarily and wonder when the police would come to yell at them to move. Then remembered I wasn’t in Boston anymore.
1 pm – Drinking a Sonic Slush. Heaven with a straw.
1:15 pm – Daddy looks at my nose ring studiously and then says: “You’re not supposed to mess with perfection like that.” Might’ve been the nicest thing he’s ever said to me.
2 pm – Hug mama at work. Grab a bag of turnip greens. Pee.
3 pm – Go by the bank and say hey to my brother. Pee again. Unexpected reunion with one of my closest highschool friends. She’s the reason I became so hooked on Jesus!
3:30 pm – Stop by the hardware store. Realize I can’t understand the thickest accents anymore.
4 pm – Home to help feed my Dad’s cows and pee again (Sonic. I love you.)
4:15 pm – Drive the tractor. Without running over anything.
5 pm – Ride to the corner store. Weirded out by all the eye contact. Everywhere.
5:30 pm – Home for the night. Hanging out with the family.
6:30 pm – My brother walks in and throws me a zip-lock bag. I’ve been waiting months for this! It’s filled with venison jerky. Home made. He finally killed that 8-point behind my Daddy’s shed. mmmm…

Wednesday
8:30 am – Hop in my Dad’s pick up to go see my nephews. My GOSH I miss them.
8:50 am – Didn’t wave at the woman passing me in the oncoming lane after she waved… Sorry lady! Forgot that we do that down here. Dang. Now I’m a jerk.
9:10 am – Pass a rooster on the side of the road. Live. Pecking the ground. Strange?
9:30 am – “AUNT MANDY! AUNT MANDY! AUNT MANDY!” Music to my ears.
11 am – Fight off bad guys and pirates with our stick swords. Yes, I wore my Wonder Woman T-shirt just for them!
2:15 pm – Pick up Papa John’s pizza and try not to devour it in the car.
5 pm – Head back to my parents’ listening to my favorite country music station.
5:45 pm – Pass that rooster again, and his friend. Still alive. Still on the side of the road.
6 pm – Home for a snack of venison jerky and catching up with my family.

It’s good to be home! Hope you’re having a Happy Thanksgiving
